I am a qualified nurse working full time, but want to do some volunteering to help out rescue centres etc?
not really sure how to go about things but want to help either elderly people who cant get out to get food for their animals, or going

Re: volunteering?

Or contact a charity like Help The Aged or Age Concern and tell them specifically what you would like to do - they may well know of ways you could help although I know there are already carers who do weekly shops for the elderly who can't get out and I would imagine they buy pet food as part of this?

Re: volunteering?

Best thing would be to contact local rescue centres, I'm sure many of them would be grateful for extra help. Some centres have various volunteer opportunites from rehoming, socialising animals, cleaning, walking dogs etc.

As for helping elderly people I'm not sure if there are any organisations to assist (apart from Cinnamon Trust but I believe thats more helping pets of owners who have passed away?) so it may need to be done on a personal level by speaking to neighbours directly.

Good Luck!
