one place I worked had one, and I am now wondering what the rules are for using and checking it. Does it often need re-calibrating? Do you use it outdoors? Do you not have any legal restrictions for the

Re: mobile x-ray unit

I kno that's what I thought but then you have the cos of a processor, up keep, film, cassettes, processing chemicals. soon adds up. then you gotta store all the bloody processed films too!

Part of my diploma we have to know the basics of Large animal radiography......

It is best not to use radiography equipment in the open air, as any scatter or primary beam not absorbed by the plate with continue to travel on and on and on....

Usually, a mobile unit is used with in a brick barn/out building rather than in the confines of a vehicle (just imagine the weight if it were lead lined).....

usually require 3 people to take rads. One to hold patient, one to hold cassette (in a cassette holder and one to take exposure.

All involved should be wearing rad. badges and lead aprons.

either a dark room can be made in the dark room or using a daylight box, which fits onto the front of an normal processor (can get pics)

any other people in the area should be warned when rads are being taken.

Thick brick walls should be adequate to stop small amounts of scatter.

that's just off the top of my head can do some more research into it if you like??? will dig out diploma notes......

Re: mobile x-ray unit

doesnt necessarily have to be lead lined - i know for certain that the last place i worked wasnt. there is also barium plaster available instead of lead (but dont think we had that either at last place unless it was masquerading as plasterboard)

you dont necessarily need a darkroom if you can get a develpoer with a darkbox and that will cut down on your costs quite a bit
