We haven't asked NVS our supplier about a price yet, but were thinking of it for an elderly GSD.
Problem would be price but we worked out that previcox would be £60 a month....
Metacam would be about £40
Haven't worked out Rimadyl costs.

It sounds good the idea of one tablet a month though (post loading dose), especially useful with dogs who hate or get sneaky about taking tablets, or who hate the taste of metacam.

Might be difficult to get clients to remember to give once a month but we thought we could give it at a nurses clinic appointment.
The stopping for one month and re-starting again after the next month (and giving twice that month) might be confusing.

Re: Trocoxil..

We've not tried it, had a talk about it from the rep. I'm not so sure about the fact you can't withdraw it if you get a reaction, like someone else said. If it were my dog i'd be reluctant to try it, would prob try everything else first.

Re: Trocoxil..

I heard from a collegue that thay have used it on several patients at her practice and are not too happy with it. She said that their patients were seemingly in more pain than they had been on the carprofen. We have not tried it at our practice as our vet is really not keen.

Re: Trocoxil..

Do you use the text service to remind clients when it is due - just I know with our clients and medication like ovarid which they are not giving daily they often forget when it is due! I find all your coments above very encouraging though we considered getting some in but were put off with not having any real feed back just what Pfizer had told us.

Re: Trocoxil..

We've got about 5 or 6 patients on it, one had an adverse reaction, one no improvement but the rest appear to be getting on better than being on previcox/carprieve/flexicam.

Re: Trocoxil..

we've got several on it who all seem to be doing really well, and some seem better on it than they were on metacm & rimadyl

Re: Trocoxil..

That is what I was thinking too. We currently only have one client on it. It does seem to work as well as previcox and carprofen. But downside is the price. I usually works out more expense than the other drugs.

You start with one tab then one in two weeks then one every month for 8mths the you are meant to stop or start again with the two week cycle
