I think its ok for nurses to do it as long as the actual drug has been prescribed by a veterinary surgeon with the animal examined by them and under their care, and the nurse is employed and acting under their direction, as with other POMV meds. I have euthanised animals left at the practice by the owners (for euth, obv) or left by charities for euthanasia. Never done it in front of the owner but I think I might like one of my old nursing colleagues to help euthanise any of mine when the time comes. Anybody can humanely euth an animal, it is the drug that is the issue, I believe.
