Oh what sad sad stories RIP little dogs xxx

I took Jack to walk at a frozen lake the other day, kept him firmly on the lead. I'm glad i did too cos he stood on the edge and went through...was only shallow there cos he was on lead, but if he hadn't been i'm sure he'd have gone out further!

That is so sad :(

We had a young staffy bought in to be cremated in the summer who has been playing in a river and got stuck under a bridge and drowned! The owner had to send his son down to see where the dog had got to because he was to big and he pulled out the dogs body I am always so wary when it comes to my dogs and water!

Had a close-ish shave with Dotty at the weekend..... was walking around a lake as usual and she was sniffing around as usual and just followed her nose onto the ice and kept on following it...... I called and called her but she took no notice... the smell of ducks, geese and swans was far more alluring.... nothing happened... she is only 6kg and she came back in her own time but I can see how it can happen and if the ice had been softer/melting etc then it may have been a different story... my heart was in my mouth.

this is so sad- the news always reports on the kids walking on the canals to warn people but no mention of the poor animals.....

These are really sad stories.... an innocent walk turns into a nightmare...... so sorry for the owners.... it would break my heart.

we had the same with a client the other night- 7mo puppy ran onto the frozen river (some kids throwing snowballs quite innocently but dog saw and chased them), he was only small and ok on the ice but her big lab jumped in and cracked the ice and the pup drowned. luckily they managed to retrieve his body to bury at home

That's awful, I'm so sorry to hear that

I remember last year my ex took his springer out for a walk (off the lead, much to my disapprovement and I told him this) because of the ice I said he should be on a lead as he's bad off the lead anyway, and he ran in the resevoir and skidded across ice almost falling into a broken bit, the ice was cracking below him. Terrifying.

omg Nicky, that is terrible, so tragic. I feel I will be thinking about that poor dog for a while now, omg - cant get over that, such a loss, RIP poor little Oscar xxx
