SNAP! and we usually got 50p for the van aswell! So strange nowadays. I agree people are just too over protective of their kids these days!

I think Hannah must be the exception to the rule. She's out all the time but she has her phone with her so I know where she is. When I was little I had a rule to be back when the street lights came on - didn't bother about food cos usually got food from someone house. Some of the mum's round here won't let the kids out of the garden - mental!! When will they learn to be street smart??

Christmas hols Hannah & her friends were off sledging a lot, came back cold & hungry and slept very well those nights!

I don't remember having snow when i was little. But in the summer used to be out playing tennis/badmington with my friends, or going to walks down the river putting wellies on to paddle in river, or riding our bikes! Didn't spend much time inside, only when wet!

me and my sister and a couple of the neighbours spent all last and this weekend sledgin and falling over in snow, trying to teach our gsd to be a sled dog, its been great fun but not 1 kid have we seen. even the few that said they wanted to come out the next day after we told them didnt turn up too busy being asleep or going out. lazy no imagination kids.

no worries, more snow for me, jess and the dog ( almost a sledge dog)

We did not have snow (thankfully) but my mum would see me when food was around at night unless rang l from a friends house and said l am staying the night.
My days would be spent riding my horse or roaming around the countryside. I loved reading but would read "on the move" out on the horse or huddled under an overhang on a kopjie above the dams or some place but not often in the house.

We did not have computers. I remember getting our first hand held calculator "WOW" got that down SA l think my mum still has it. A relative got a digital watch, the light was red and it was useless in daylight but everyone used to mob him to see it. TV did not start until 17:00 in the evening and stopped at midnight (or just before). We had no mobile phones.

I do regret no google earth that would have been brilliant.

The Hillside Dams my backyard, we lived the opposite side of a dead end road against a kopjie (hill) Picture number 7 is about 300yards from my house.

Strangely enough, I had this conversation with myself this evening!! My eldests son, 6 years, has always loved computer games, but Matthew - 4 years, never bothered - until now!! Now he knows what a Nintendo DS is!!!!! Never thought he would be in to them same as Phillip!

I have been working all week and weekend, so mum told me tonight that boys have been playing non stop with their computer games all day today! My answer? that must change! What has happened to being outside in the snow? reading? colouring in? doing little boy things?

Strange isn't it the whole culture of all the kids in the street going out & playing all day has gone....

If I was still a kid in this weather, my mum'd be struggling to get me in!
