We have now resolved this issue: when you post a new thread, or reply to a thread, you'll see that the option "Subscribe to topic?" is NOT ticked by default, so unless you tick it, you won't get emails to notify you when someone replies to the thread.

We've also highlighted the option to remind you that it's there!

No - I haven't fixed it yet!

I have found out how to fix it, but I can't do it myself, so the techie will have to do it on Monday.

Mine have stopped now, so either Arlo has fixed it, or it is because I clicked something in my profile....nothing to do with the threads I contribute too, as I have clicked on them to stop it and that did not work. So the profile thing must work.

OH MY GOD,

just checked my emails and have 50 email all from vetnurse, i only reregistered last night, think a bit off alteration to my profile is in order. though i must say i really like the new forum setup, so much easier to see all the threads and reply, wel done and cheers arlo .

Just looked in profile setting and in configuration you can click NO to stop notification of replies. I think that would stop sending you replies unless you specifically subscribed to them, Have a look in your - Edit Profile the configuration. Think at the moment it is defaulting to Yes!! sorry Arlo if i'm already stating the obvious!!

Will you make them optional?

usually you can edit your profile to subscribe to topics or not.

I really like geting a notification, thats one thing i really didnt like about the old site as i never knew if anyone had replied to a post.

There does seem to be alot of notifications coming through though, for each time someone posts.

I am trying to! For the moment, just make sure you untick 'subscribe to topic' when you make a post.

Arlo, I think that is a brilliant idea, at least that way people can get replies if they want by checking or clicking, otherwise you dont get the replies....that would be so much easier.

I think it would be a good idea if notifications were not sent by default. I am just trying to find out how to do that, may be something for the programmer. Back as soon as I have news.

I'm loving the notifications as i never used to get them before and then i would forget to log on for days!! (i know naughty me!!)

But i am get notification of replies but only problem is that it is notifying me of my own post! before i get any replies, so i am logging back on to see my own post.

Would be useful if it could send just one notification and no others untill you log in again, i know it can be done on other forums, maybe another one for Arlo.

I clicked the one at the top, but only just noticed the one at the bottom, thing is I am now having to go into each thread AGAIN!!!!! and uncheck all, but you cant do it without a reply, so I have resorted to pressing any bloody button just so I can uncheck the damn thing.

ok rant over, but I may have more of a rant if I continue to get them

In the bottom corner of each post there is a box to uncheck. Also, at the top of the thread is message you click to unsubscribe to that thread.

Arlo - couldn't the default setting be no subscription to thread unless asked for?

hey there

You need to edit your profile. go to the 'My Profile' drop down tab, click 'Edit Profile', then comuntication options, scroll down to 'Configuration' where it says send notifications select No. think this should work lol
