2 of mine had heartworm when we were in Tenerife. Santa and Wibble, the tratment (they had drugs) is horrid. One injection / day over 2 days. Then NO running or excitement for 6 weeks as they can drop down dead.The drug has arsnic in it or had so l understand.

In the rescue kennels l checked all new dogs for it. Very easy a blood test and check you could see the larva, if they had it l put the dogs down as it would be impossible to treat them in that environment.

There was/is a fancy test out with chemicals but it worked as well as mine and mine was cheaper.
