Our nurse doesnt have a hearing aid cos she's 100% deaf. She can lip read very well too and masks in theatre are a bit of a problem for us (I dont always wear a mask but have been recently as I had tonsilitis a few weeks ago).

Re: Deaf colleague

[quote user="frog and cat mad!"]

I have worked with a deaf vet (might be the same one as you dippy?!?!) and currently work with a deaf nurse

Not really had any probs with either, the vet had a special stethoscope which attatched onto her hearing aids and the nurse is currently looking into one.

The only place the nurse has probs is in theatre as everyone has to wear masks and therefore she cant lip read, i think we are looking into getting the right loop systems in there so her hearing aids work better.

Aww thats really good that you are doing that.

I have a deaf neighbour, he can lip read too, and I find it totally amazing

Re: Deaf colleague

I have worked with a deaf vet (might be the same one as you dippy?!?!) and currently work with a deaf nurse

Most of the time things weren't too different from working with anyone else as she lip read but I do remember one occasion when she had her back to us and we needed her to get something from the drugs cupboard in a hurry for resuscitation and it took us all a few seconds in the panic of the moment to realise why she wasn't responding to all the shouting of her name!
