I was off today but my boss sent all the nurses home at 2.30 except for 2. The on call vet is staying there the night in case he gets snowed in.

I managed to make it in to work this morning. started at 11.30am, got here on time... 2 nurses couldnt even attempt to come in... everyone else made it one way or another, but at 12 everyone went home. was myself and 2 other nurses and a vet until about 4pm, when one nurse left to go home... we have in total seen about 10-15 people ALL day. ALL ops cancelled by the owners, had no inpatients all day, phones alot quiter than normal... and im on emergency service shft till midnight, and im sleeping here tonight in the spare flat we have with my sleeping bag, haha... im not attempting to drive home on pure ice at night time for a normally 10mins journey haha.

Try living above the practice! Was meant to be on a half day today instead got TOLD i was going to stay till 3pm then we could close early - when i said that wasn't early for me as i was meant to leave at 12 was told tough! Just me and one vet today and a dog that needed xrays - so having to cover reception/phones and monitor the anaesthetic and process the x-rays - oh joy! Dreading tomorrow - already been told i won't have a receptionist!! Only good thing is that there aren't any inpatients!!

I made it in today but took twice the time and thankfully my early finish so left at 3.30, other nurse in too. Dreading tm morning though as now freezing and struggling to get on and off drive now. OHs car stuck completely as his not good in snow or ice at all, my little car gives it a good go. Now weather forecast has said we might have a bit more tonight then loads more on Sunday!!

I'm waiting till 7pm so i can turn phones over to vetsnow...then off upstairs to spend the eve with the vet and her kitty

I have sympathy for you too! Everyone has left and I am the only one left! Even the vet is on his way out of the door...........I am sooooooo bored!

i having exactly same problem just because i live up the road, i didnt even get informed about everyone getting sent home, i was 1h 45 min l8 home, as no one else to work!!

should of seen it coming so very rude!

2 out of 4 nurses made it in today. 1 out of 2 vets, 1 out of 2 receptionists. No PM. I'm thinking about staying at work tonight so i don't have an icy drive in the morning. College have just phoned to say they're closed.

my boss just came and thanked me for staying on all day... feel really silly for moaning now. It was all I was after to be honest - I agree I don't want anyone trying to get in in dangerous conditions and getting hurt, I'm glad they're all home safe and sound just get so frustrated with nothing to do.

Now I've had stuff going on I'm fine

I live 8 miles away from work and have never not made it in because of the snow. I was off anyway today so will see how tomorrow goes! Bloody snow!

i'v just finished work the only one that has been all day! just me another nurse and our boss in been dead all day, what has really bugged me is other staff members phoning just to rub it in and then not even bother to try to get in even though the roads are clear and they are openly telling me this on the phone really pisses me off, my boss did thank me for working today and told me that anyone that didnt come in isnt being paid for today or being told to take it as a days holiday

that does suck, would be nice to have what you're doing acknowledged at least. i felt bad for the people within walking distance of our 3 surgeries today, they're the only ones who made it in, but on the other hand i'm no good to anyone if i kill myself trying to drive through a foot of snow to work...and it's STILL snowing

So many people don't! and it gets me really mad!!

And most of the time that's all you want... doesn't have to be a big deal... just a thank you... not much to ask, is it?

Brilliant - he was just about to let me go i think but then the phone rings and i have a stitch up and dyspnoeic dog both coming down and I am only nurse... one extreme to the other! At least I'm not bored I suppose really depressing though.
