What microchips do you use in practice, which ones are the best (easy to implant etc), also do you find that the biotherm ones are reliable re for using to take temperatures?

We don't like biotherm. We have heard that some of the normal chip readers won't read their chips at all, cat rescue charity scans them there then take to vets to double check as their scanner missded some but only ever biotherm ones. Also its not going to give you a core temperature and if you suspected a temp or get a weird reading you would wnat to check anyway.

Re: Microchips

We are currently using, and have used in the past, the animalcare identichips (not the gun implanter) and have had no probs.

Then I moved practice, and they used both of the regular & biotherm identichips.

I found the syringes really flimsy & we had countless problems with them getting stuck at the eye of the needle, not coming out at all, going dead once they were implanted, biotherm ones that didn't read temperature etc, clients only get a little slip of paper & a strip of stickers that they're never gonna use all of....

Also I really don't trust the biotherm chips at all, it baffles me that a subcutaneous device can be trusted to give you an accurate core body temperature.
I try to avoid using the sale line "oh it'll stop the animal having to have it's temperature taken rectally" as any good vet concerned about an animal's temperature would take a rectal regardless of a chip....

We thought about getting the biotherm ones but heard they weren't that reliable. not how true it is, we also decided agains the extra expense of them as we have enough trouble convincing clients that £15 for a microchip is cheap!
