Are you worried about taking long course of antibiotics? I know sometimes you have to weigh up the pros and cons. You hear about them trashing (to use a scientific word ) the natural balance of the digestive system, unfortunately I also suffer stomach probs so wouldn't wanna make anything worse. I might speak to doc if things flare up again though, but managing ok at the mo. my mantra is, theres nothing a bit of make up won't fix

Incidentally has anyone heard of possible plans to stop NHS treatment for conditions such as acne? also to fine repeat drunk casualty regulars.. the latter I can understand but very harsh to trivialise skin probs which can have a huge affect on your mental wellbeing, usually at a very sensitive time in life and through no fault of your own... will be very angry if that goes through Only those that can afford treatment will be able to have it then.. kinda goes against the whole point of the NHS methinks.

No i hadn't heard of that! I totally agree with the drunk casualties. But skin?! That's awful! Stress affects peoples skin, so if you don't get help it could be a viscous cycle for many people. Your are stressed, skin gets bad, stressed because skin is bad, etc etc. My skin isn't that bad that i want any treatment like antib's, i want to try managing it myself with supplements etc. But find it awful that they aren't going to treat the people that need it! We pay our taxes for what reason?!

Re: Problem skin...
I have no choice in the matter as i have Hidradenitis Suppurativa which is then upset by my insulin issues. I also have gastric problems with my insulin/GI issues which aren't much better with my Metformin. My biggest problem before they worked out I had PCOS was lack of bacteria in the nether regions which was very uncomfortable, but if i didn't take the antibiotics then i would get bumps down there too!! so i was damned if i did and damned if i didn't. Since being on the Metformin and the low dose course of antibiotics i've been fine. No more issues, the gastric issues are subsiding with diet change and my body getting used to the Metformin.

Re: Problem skin...

Are you worried about taking long course of antibiotics? I know sometimes you have to weigh up the pros and cons.
hey, I know someone already mentioned supplements but i've found that a general multivitamin helps a lot for me. I use the multibionta immune support. Have also had skin probs all my life, tried pretty much everything. I found that whenever I take a course of antibiotics for something else it really clears up but obviously can't take them forever!Been on Dianette for years aswell which seemed to help at first but not convinced its helping any more so may stop for a bit, see what happens. I also wanted to try accutane but consultant said my case wasn't bad enough (they don't take into account psychological issues obv) The best things i've found to keep it under control are facewashes containing salicylic acid (l'oreal and garnier do some good ones) and a glycolic acid toner (I use alpha H) and benzoyl peroxide (use with caution if your skin gets dry or sensitive though) Someone in the US actually wrote a book on this system so must have some evidence, they also recommended cooling your skin with ice packs before using the benzoyl peroxide though which is all a bit too time consuming (and cold) for me.. Good luck, its horrible having skin probs and it can really ruin your day! Wish I was one of those lucky people who have gorgeous skin and don't even think about it

I go on a regular 6mth course of antibiotics for my skin usually only once a year but i know of some people that do it for longer. my skin is worse with my hormone problems from my PCOS and when i let my skin be exposed to allergens or if i'm not eating very well (high GI diet)

Re: Problem skin...

hey, I know someone already mentioned supplements but i've found that a general multivitamin helps a lot for me.
argh i've had problem skin all my life! went on the pill (dianette) at 16 after trying various antibiotic tablets/creams/over-the-counter washes etc, it got brilliant for years and then as soon as i stopped working outside with horses last february and took this student nurse position it's flared back up and not settled down at all really! changed my pill after being on dianette 10 years to yasmin, seemed to help at first but i'm still breaking out. just started trying that seaweed body shop range, not sure that it's actually helping the spots at all but i do love the products! simple range did nothing for me. and on my wage dermalogica products are just too pricey...thinking about asking dr for a blast of roacutane but heard side effects can be bad!!

i do have thyroid problems though which are taking some time to sort out so i'm wondering if the two are related...
Thyroid and hormones(insulin in particular) will not help for sure. Also remember with Dermalogica stuff you get large bottles for what you pay for and you only use a tiny bit. It's not like most ranges where you need a good 5p size of it to lather up. you need less than half a pea size of the Antibac face wash to lather up your whole face, I've had one bottle of the stuff for a whole year and i still have loads left since you don't use it daily. Most face products are better used non regularly and aren't meant to be daily as it will cause your skin to forget what it should be doing or over compensate for drying out.

i do have thyroid problems though which are taking some time to sort out so i'm wondering if the two are related...

Re: Problem skin...
Most of Lush puts me in a rash because of the heavy perfumes and parabens.
