If so you may be able to apply for an ancestry visa. Check with the embassy as this may help your application.

Re: Moving away...

Forgot to add, the holiday visa is really your only bet at working there. (unless you find a hot aussie to marry!) I tried to go through the sponsorship route and it was declined. Vet nursing is not a position they will sponsor, even though we will sponsor aussie VN's in the UK which is annoying! My practice filed many reports to the embassy showing how they had advertised for an experienced QVN for a long period of time and were unable to fill the position, but they simply informed us that it was not a position they will sponsor. I think if you got into a managerial role within the practice that may bend the rules a little but other than that it very difficult. They do always change the rules though so always worth checkin it out to see if they have updated since I was there.

Good luck!

Re: Moving away...

You can apply for a working holiday visa which lets you work for one year, but usually only for 3months with each position. This is easy to get as long as you are under 30yrs old and can prove you have sufficient funds in your account, usually £1000. There is also a new option of working for a period of time (3months I think but could be wrong) in a rural area doing a job which benefits the country, usually fruit picking. This will give you a reward of a further 1 year added to your visa. Not sure how easy it would be to get work as an ANA, although if you have lots of practical experience I think you should be able to find something along the lines of assistant etc. I am a QVN and had no problem finding work there. Try the Kookaburra website, they are a free locum agency and they should be able to help you more.

I say go for it, it's and awesome place, I ended up staying for 3years and had a blast!

Re: Moving away...

It would be easier if you were a QVN, they are always on the lookout for them, and there are 2 jobs in the job section just now fro Nurses.
I would have thought you'd be able to get a job over there as a trainee veterinary technician (i think that's what nurses are called over there). Not sure what the ANA would count as over there? I'm sure there will be people on here who can help
