most of the practices i work at have done cost+vat for goods and drugs, and no charge for services. i've also worked at a couple of places that give the nurses a £100 cash bonus at christmas!

If you get a good boss look after them they are scarcer than rocking horse dung - unfortunatley the majority of bosses I have worked for just fall into the common 'crap' variety but there were a few good ones

all nurses get drugs/vaccs etc cost +10% gst. services such as GA + surgery 50% discount. we get free food every 1/4 of the year depending on sales. all VN courses are paid in full by the boss and we get $500.00 study/conference/flights etc per year. my boss is now bring in a bonus scheme were its based upon sales of what we sell.. and that percent goes to the nurses and all over time that we work is paid. staff gets accounts, so we can pay off things over time. she takes out to lunch/dinner regularly and pays. free cat boarding. no consult fees, i love my boss she goes out of her way to ensure our nurses are happy and truely listen to our demands/whinging (LOL) and any concerns we have, but it took me several other crappy bosses to find this one.

We get 20% on vets bills + food at cost . Also he pays for BVNA congress every year.

Work for Vets4Pets and have never had profit related bonus, just a standard salary Just have a 10% discount on any items/meds. Practice also seems busy enough so not really a struggling practice.

Would be interested to find out if anybody has ever been paid a bonus?( that isnt a JVP) It certainly never happened where I was in fact basic wage rise was a fight

The event you have read about Stuart is what happens if you work for Vets4Pets..

They have an annual congress spread over a weekend in Birmingham. Every member of staff from the practice goes, expenses paid for etc.

They also get paid bonuses etc when the practice does well.

It's all cos it's a big corporate group, some of the others like CC or Vets Now might be like it to maybe..?

We get: no consult fee, and cost price (plus vat) on treatment, food, drugs etc.. Also our vet gets a monthly bonus if he reaches targets, and when he does he takes us nurses out with it, like a meal out, bowling etc.. so thats a nice perk!

We get vet fees at cost only which is very helpful, and also anything we order at cost only eg food.

We get free vaccines (not rabies) and 20 % off food, flea treatments and wormers.
For non insured pets we get free consults and the boss will negotiate the rest, usually half price on services and cost for lab fees etc.
For insured pets all treatment is charged out full price and the boss pays the excess and we do direct claims.
We do have accommodation available and it does work out slightly cheaper and is taken out of wages before tax.

Stuart, that's really good they did that. We get drugs, foo etc at cost price (plus VAT) and no charge for vets time. Ops are billed at cost price. For any insurance claims the excess is paid for for us and a direct claim is done

I think we get 30%-ish off?! Which is really good.

I was also given a car - for my boyfriend - for a short period of time when his packed in! I was SO grateful that they done that for me! I really appreciated it!

It happened at just the right time too - I was going through one of those "no one appreciates the job I do here - I work all the hours I can for more or less nothing" etc etc... but really lifted my spirits when they offered my boyfriend (who has nothing to do with the hospital) the car to use! Really ment a lot (so grassing snake (see Eye Spy! forum)... tell the partners that!

Can I get a job there?

We get reduced vet fees (ie no consultation fee, and anything used eg drugs, food etc at cost). Think most nurses probably get that these days though?
