Had a lady ring today asking for advise as she'd bought a puppy for her daughter this Christmas. She said it was vomiting worms and asked if there was anything she could do. I suggested bringing it down for a check/ start off worming treatment, also said it was old enough for vaccinations. The lady said she couldn't afford any and anyway a few years ago her other dog had an op and she claimed on the PDSA, couldn't she do that now? GRRRRRR!!!!

We all go times financial hard times when we might need the PDSA, but why did she buy a new puppy when she couldn't even afford BASIC preventative treatment?

Re: A puppy is for life!

I handreared a kitten a few months ago that I was trying to rehome and a lady came in to see it on the first day of a bank holiday long weekend. I said that I was going to keep the kitten for a week or two more as she had a touch of cat flu and I didn't want to rehome her until she was better, the woman said "but its a bank holiday, my kids are driving me up the wall, I need somethign to occupy them"!!!!!!!! I refused to give the kitten to her and she stormed off, then phoned my boss and said that I'd been rude to her and refused to give her the kitten when she'd expected to just turn up and take it home! Luckily enough my boss took my side when I explained what had happened. The same lady phoned later THAT DAY to say she'd got a kitten from somewhere else, poor thing! My kitten went to a fabulous home with one of our after-school helpers who loves her to bits.

I also once had someone come in with a six month old pup and ask me when it would start going to the toilet outside. "Have you been training him?" "What do you mean?
