Sounds really gross but I agree with previous comment about cleaning and getting the liquid (I used salt water as many times a day as practical when mine went yucky early on) inside the holes. If you wear a bar rather than a hoop, it's not as easy to keep it clean as no air gets inside the "wound" bit so you need to try and squirt it inside from the top with a small syringe and let it trickle through. Failing this, once it's healed, take the bar out every couple of days and wash that well with peroxide or salt water and leave wet when putting back in so it cleans the inside of the hole, if that makes sense. if you wear a hoop, turn it round through the wound and clean the whole thing as you go which will naturally get the liquid inside the hole. I still do mine every so often even now, 7yrs on as it doesn't take much for it to get gummed up, being hiddne under clothes. Also, avoid belts/clothing which sits right over it when you sit down as that also aggravates it (if you wear the standard sexy green high waisted trousers at work, leave the button undone and fold the top over if you don't already!)

Ouch... no wonder it still gets gummed up after 7 years...

Of all the 40-odd piercings I've had, the ones that did best are the ones that were left alone, I hardly even bothered cleaning them at all. The ones that went bad were the ones that I cleaned and faffed about with a lot... Seriously, left alone, they do much better.

Re: Belly Button Piercing

i'd try a titanium bar like others have said - i got mine done about 11 years ago and it never seemed to heal completely it was always a bit sore, it was worse with gold bars rather than stainless steel but would still sometimes be sore with stainless steel, i didnt want to take it out though.
