Does anybody use anything different or have any tips to make it easier to use? I know you can use vegetable baby food, are there any

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

I had to use this once, it was tricky to get it into the syringe so i watered it down abit more and then to the corner of the rabbits mouth, she was pretty weak but quickly got her energy back after this food!!

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

[quote user="Sarah GG"]

i have put the syringe in the microwave for 10-20 secs, it softens the plastic then i stick a pen or somthing down the tip and leave it to cool for a minute or so then you can get the food up it really easily and still have the tip to put in the mouth.

I used to do this with an old metacam syringe - used to heat up a biggish knitting needle with a lighter and just make the hole a bit bigger in the end of a syringe. used to work really well tried using catheter tip syringes but they seemed so big and needed so much effort to shift the plunger that there was a real risk of drowning whatever it was you were feeding - but maybe thats just me.

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

With my history of cooking the microwave option wouldn't work for me, it is to close to cooking.

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

i have put the syringe in the microwave for 10-20 secs, it softens the plastic then i stick a pen or somthing down the tip and leave it to cool for a minute or so then you can get the food up it really easily and still have the tip to put in the mouth.

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

Or cut the end off a syringe (anuy swize), get a stitch cutter and put it into the hole and turn it making the hole bigger to the size you want. The only problem with the pots is distributing into client-friendly packaging but this isn't too much of a problem as you can put a few scoops into polygrip bags or medication pots. I think you can get the Oxbow in sachets too but when I last checked there wasn't a great deal of cost difference between this and Recovery.

Is good food though and smells nice (aniseed!), a lot of bunnies tend to like this especially the fine powder as its much easier to syringe feed them.

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

Do you know how the price of the oxbow compares to supreme recovery? We use recovery, but heard lots of people on here say they like oxbow, so would like to ask if we could swap. I love the smell of recovery!

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

thanks bouncyfi,will check it out

Re: Critical Care for Rabbits

Get it through Dunlops
