I handed in my notice 2 weeks ago after being offered something elsewhere. I thought all was fine until the other day when my boss started demanding money from me for CPD i did about 6 weeks ago. At the time I had not received a job

Re: CPD Pay back....

with all things like this legal advice. I whink you may need to look at small claims court but that bvna legal could help with.

To be honest there is no way l would agree to pay with them paying me back but it is to late to say that now just good luck.

Re: CPD Pay back....

Slightly referenced to this thread... I wonder what you all think of this:

I recently sat (& passed!) C-SQP exams. Boss wanted me to do it for the tier 2 inspection that was approaching.

Exam was in Devon, boss agreed at the time that he would pay my travel expenses & overnight stay in hotel, although I would have to pay out & claim it back (which I wasn't best pleased with as money is extremely tight at the moment, see other posts!, but that was the only way it was gonna work, which I accepted), so got an invoice for the hotel, receipt for the petrol etc.

2 weeks after the exam, I got offered a new job, which I duly accepted.

Then, as left facing trying to get the expenses back.....

The practice manager was quite nice about it initially, as I explained that I wouldn't have done the exam if it was my choice as there was no way I could afford it, so would really need the money back, even though it seemed quite cheeky.

At my "leaving meeting" the boss said that he was reluctant to give me the money until I had cleared my bill with him.
I appreciate that it's a bit cheeky to ask him for money, when I still owed him money, but like I said, I really couldn't afford to fork out £100 at the time....

I finished the job on the 4th December, still haven't had the money....

Nothing was ever written down about it.... so don't know where I stand now

If they make your life crap at work, you need to ask yourself if you can handle for a little bit as you're leaving away.

Just be careful they don't take it out next pay.

Re: CPD Pay back....

If you didnt sign anything they can't make you pay it back, i left within 2 weeks of completing my assessor training at my old practice!

How long is your notice period? If they make your life hell while working it then you can just think, these are all the reasons im leaving!!! Or call in sick for most of it then you wont have to deal with them!!

Re: CPD Pay back....

If you didn't sign anything I would imagine you aren't required to pay anything back. My last practice got us to sign agreements when undertaking CPD with significant costs (like assessor training) so would have to repay if we left within a year or so. Are you a member of the BVNA? Maybe give their legal helpline a call just to confirm?
