My dad worked in a Ford factory years ago. He said they used to spend a lot of time playing draughts when there wasn't much work to do. A lot of them were really good at it. There was one guy nobody would play against cos he wasn't any good at the game. My dad played against him (i've NEVER won against my dad), and one day the guy won, after my dad teaching him tricks of the game. He was really chuffed he'd managed to beat someone My dad did nights in the factory, he HATED working nights!

I actually enjoyed working there as well! - the job was totally brainless, conversation was rivetting depending on which line you were working. (conversation on 2nd leg and gussets was pretty racey as the half of the line that werent already pregnant were planning on how they could become pregnant, but find yourself on side seams and trim and it was usually comparing different brands of washing powder or discussing the latest medical disaster to hit the line( anything from varicose veins to 'the change' - hypochondriacs the whole lot of them but hysterically funny). Packout girls (and guy) totally bitchy main subject of conversation was Stephanie Beecham in Dynasty, makeup( conversation usually initiated by Grahame) the top 10 and how to find that special someone (all of them single) with a comparable intellectual capacity (believe me intellect should not have been a problem).

And I can still remember what was in the charts when I worked there( I should do I listened to them so many times during the course of a day) - we used to have these totally mad sing alongs - totally out of tune and with alternative lyrics. Terence Trent Darby, Kylie Minogue,Belinda Carlisle.

when I used to work at the knicker factory we used to get a staff bus there and back - there used to be a race to get on the bus every night (nicknamed the getaway vehicle) and every night as soon as the last bod was on the bus we all used to shout Go Go Go (think somebody had heard it on the sweeney once). We had a 'dedicated' driver because basically the other drivers in the coach company were scared of us
