many thanks everyone for your good wishes.

Just for good measure I have another interview tomorrow (snow permitting) at another hospital within the same NHS Trust for the same job - Theatre Support Worker - is its posh title.

I had applied for it before I was accepted for the first one, but I'm going along anyway to meet that hospital's team, and to discuss which job (if I am offered the second one as well that is!) and confirm either the first one or wait for the second one, with HR after the interview. I've provisionally accepted the first one as I definitely want one of the two jobs, it's just a case possibly of which one, and also to quicken up the paperwork by taking it directly to HR rather than posting it.

So it looks like new year, new career - and then wait to see how the new rules pan out as to whether I ever train as a vet nurse, or keep it as a part time charity job while I forge ahead with a new career, albeit in the area of theatre which would have been my first choice of specialism (along with emergency out of hours work) if I'd ever managed to become a QVN.

I will keep you all informed.......

Well done, I did a couple of stints in human theatres when I started my human nurse training and loved it. Disliked the awake patient though.

Been waiting for a vacancy at my local hospital for theatre work but nothing yet.

never because as long as it is ok to not train nurses, pay peanuts and people are keen enough to do the job and be so grateful they will work for peanuts its never going to change.

Working in theatres is the best fun you'll ever have, tough work but the rewards are worth it. Where will you be based? The spectrum of work for HCA's in theatres is variable depending on local policy Many use HCA's for scrub work on basic cases as there aren't enough RN's around to cover elective lists. No scrub nurse, no surgery!

Well done Albatross!!! you know once you've got a qualification you can always try and transfer back to veterinary! I kno of a certain someone who used to work with human theatres and now successfully runs veterinary ones!!!
