Sounds good, I was like that with the job I took after I qualified and I stayed there for nearly 14 yrs.

hi just to say i have accepted the job in the smaller practice. just had a nice feel about the place if you know what i mean and they get involved in a lot of community activities which i personally feel is important from an educational aspect. I have been in for a day just to hang about and see what goes where etc. loads of tea and chat and everyone was smiling! Have offered to help out over the christmas period so im up and running for the new year. Thanks again for the comments.

thanks for all the comments all of which i am taking on board. the travel is almost the same between the two and the package seems fair either way. so... i have friends who work for corporates and have heard that they do keep a very small supply of drugs etc which does lead to vets and clients getting stroppy but dont do their own oncall. I would prefer to be a person who is worth something on a personal basis rather than a cog in a big wheel so i suppose i am leaning towards private practice. Keeping an open mind until tommorrow as its not fair to mess people about and there is also an opportunity for someone else. thanks again

I would agree about asking to do a half day at each. Both types of practice will have their advantages and disadvantages, I worked for a large corporate group that could be frustrating because of few permanent staff, only able to keep certain stock in which would lead to vets getting stroppy because none of the drugs they wanted were in, management issues.... On the plus side though the staff were nice, there was good CPD and the pay was good too.

i would go to each for half aday to see what you thought of the place, people and hopw they do things.

did either one offer somthing the other didnt extra cpd, whatsd the travekl like to both of them, what were your 1st thoughts about the places when you went around them. 1st impresstions are usually quite good to go on.

not sure what the recession is like near you. maybe the bigger business would be safer as a private practice may not have the funding during these hard times. however in private practice well certainly in mine you are like one of the family whereas a big business practice maybe you are just a small cog in a big wheel?? not much help but depends what you want from your career.having worked in private id quite like to go to referral. each to their own. think hard im sure you will make a good decision
