Gotta agree with Gemma here - and bring on the back lash but cat insurance is SOOO much cheaper than dog insurance!! Currently paying 360 a yr - on a healthy 15month crossbreed - imagine how much its going to go up each yr of her life and if/when i claim!!

Petplan does cover well and they have always paid out with no problems, but £69 per month (over £800 a year) is a bit much.

My two dogs cross breed & border terrier were insured with pet plan was paying about £50 a month only cancelled as excess was soo high, now with AXA direct paying £18 per dog per month, similar policy to Pet Plan with lower excess. Have paid out well for recent claims. Is internet only to apply.

Why do people look at how much they are spending on the monthly premium, and not the cover they are getting. I'm sorry, but you really do often end up paying for whatever you get. Pay cheap, get rubbish. Cover for life all the way folks!

I never want to go down the cheap route or give my cat's second-best treatment. I want the best for my 2 kids, that give me 100% and ask for nothing in return. I pay £13 a month per cat and must say £6000 cover suits me well. With quick payouts (never any longer than 3 weeks), no quibbling on the claims, Petplan are my fav. At least they haven't jacked up my boys monthly premium after all his problems....9 issues in 8 yrs, with only 1 costing under £1000....... I'm more than happy with them.

My sister made the mistake of not getting her puppy insured (I promised her I'd only bug her once about it, how I regret that now), and what with her horses recent problems (also not insured, as it already had COPD and of course that meant no one would cover her for any non related issues....apparently) has managed to get herself into massive debt with the vet with the old fashioned "I don't care what it costs, do everything" phrase, even after I dropped hints to the vet about cost concerns they seemed to just keep coming. She's a live in nanny, that also looks after the horses...not a well paid job in the slightest. I kick myself for not pushing further.

I don't care either about the cost of my cats vets bills, but at least I'm not killing myself with debt issues just to ensure they are are having healthy well looked after lives by having the back up of insurance.

I'd rather (to be honest) never ever have to use it, as it means my animals are well and healthy.

I've got my 8 year old border terrier cross insured with petplan, live in Oxfordshire and have never claimed and it's £14 a month with my VN discount.

Thats the problem i have now, both my boys have arthritis but as you say, you find the money somehow. Its not too bad at the moment, but i worry how i would cope if one of them needed referring

I'm thinking of cancelling totally as will always find the money if something happens... but as lab will be arthritic later in life and therefore ongoing...

I used to have my boys insured with Marks and Spencers and they were a good price, but i found them a bit of a nightmare to get claims paid. I lost count of the number of times they 'lost' my claim forms! More than were pretty good too, until i had to put a big claim in then my premiums went sky high! I don't have insurance now and i'm praying that nothing too serious happens to the dogs!

OK so maybe not then... I know 30 a month is not excessive but i've never claimed, shes young and a cross breed!!

I used to have a yorkie terrier cross insured with pet protect...never again!!! I was paying £7.95 a month(this was about 6 years ago) and suddenly when it came up for renewel the premium shot up to £79.95 a month!!!!!! I obviously rang them and the reason they gave me was because I had claimed twice in a 12 month period.......lump removal and cruciate repair......I was classed as a high risk client.

I cancelled and got him insured with petplan.....they paid out £1000's for him...he developed diabetes!!!!!

Insurance is a nightmare - i have a 15month lab x pointer, pay 30 a month with petplan cause i live in surrey!! Seriously going to have to change... Anyone had dealings with pet protect??

Check waht level of cover you are on, you may be on a hgher policy. Beware of Argos - they premium load once you claim. One f our clinets claimed for a mass removl and premium shot to over £50 per month!!! Also beware if you think you may ever need dental cover - many exclude that now.

I've just checked with the company and the £69 is with the 20% nurse discount.

This means over a year I'll be paying ove £800

argos might be worth looking into as they seem to do a good price on lifetime insurance. I looked into them for my cats, but when it came to it they don't insure my breed of cats (grrrr,angry letter in the pipeline)

Ive found M&S followed by morethan good to deal with, both are similar priced i think and they both have a good policy limit and lifetime cover unlike some!
