Brilliant thread!!

Currently on an SVN wage, 3 GSDs, a cat, 2 parrots, 2 pigeons, 2 horses and saving for a wedding......nobody told me how expensive they were!

I second the bottle of change - at the end of every week, me and the other half empty our loose change from my bag, his wallet, the cars (there's always loose cash in cars!) and build it up. I've also gone through my wardrobe and put half my clothes up for sale (the rule being if I didn't know I had it, it gets sold! But choosing my "audience" as such - e.g. Joules and riding stuff gets advertised to the farm where our horses are) any money from that goes into the bottle straight away.

I'm also into my photography and have a half-decent camera, so next year when I have more time I may put some feelers out and see if I can do a few photoshoots

Unfortunately, I'm not entirely crafty or creative or else I'd spend some time making stuff to sell!!

I know it took me ages to find this thread - I have been watching that eat well for less. Good job they haven't got me as a personal shopper - I'm sorry but some people really dont have a clue and actually yes I am including some of the stuff the presenters are coming up with. I am on a serious economy drive again!

PMSL even more now - just realised it was me that started this thread when I was a student! Might need to revisit some of these tips. We were a thrifty lot :D

probably not an earth shattering discovery but just thought I would share

for those of us that are cat owned the aldi pouches are currently £1.75 for 12 and have proved to be very acceptable to my two little furry fiends - even eating them in preference to felix and whiskas

I don't know about you guys, but I think washing powder is well pricey! A really good tip I got off MSE, was to mix in a packet of soda crystals (50p ish) with your washing powder to bulk it out (50:50 - 1kg soda to 1kg powder). Plus the soda crystals help clean stuff (apparently!)

I've been doing it for years now, and had no probs (not even with a premmy babies clothes), PLUS it's saved me from spending about £3 a week on washing powder, to £3 a fortnight (or less now that I use value hehe!)

I save for gifts/ treats for myself by collecting £2 coins and putting small change - (20p and under) in a jar it is surprising how quickly it adds up.

This one worked for me. I save for a gift to myself. I make sure I set aside a little for my personal luxuries besides those for bills and other expenditures. For example, I have a separate envelope for a new nursing uniform that I want to have by the end of the month. I do this every month, for different items. This helps me avoid spending for other unnecessary things. And if there comes unexpected payments, I can use the money I saved. But I don't want spoiling things I'm expecting to get so I don't buy just anything my eyes lay on. I'm dying to have the nursing uniform I saw here.

Really Carolyn? I wasnt told that when I asked about it Though I am still glad it will be one bill less, the only thing is though, you are always 'checking' for fear of running out!! Can't win, eh???

For those of you who own your own house, we recently installed a 'pay as you go' meter for our electricity. We just have to keep it topped up regular. Its a bill less coming in every 3 months which is great. We normally pay about £20-30 per week to top it up. We will never run out of electricity at night or at the weekend, it will go on to an emergency supply until 8am the next working day.

LOL. I think frugal-living woman (what my housemate now calls me) has gone too far. My boss/supervisor told me I am tighter than a monkey's *** (or words to that effect) after I made him hang up and call me on my landline and not my cell phone as it was costing the company too much money for him to call me

Just remember you'll need to declare it to the tax man, unless they're paying the tax for you. You may even get taxed at the higher tax bracket, for a while until they sort it out.

You also have no say to which advert goes on your car, so you could be driving around advertising a STD clinic or condoms.

Make sure your contract doesn't have a clause about them not paying for paintwork damage, when they take the ad off. It can happen no matter how careful they are.

Edited to sort the links out, and to say that there are tons of these companies out there, but these are the ones I have had the best experiences with. The top two pay you in vouchers, and the bottom two in money, but you have to reach £50 first - I reached £50 easily with its your view, but havent got there yet with you gov
