An owner brings in an aggressive dog, who had bitten several people, for euthanasia. The owner tells the vet that the dog is unpredictable and should be PTS. Before the vet carries out the act, the owner changes their mind

Re: Hypothetically speaking.......

I would say to that, though if they watched them get drunk and knowingly let them then drive, then fair enough, but you cant ascertain when a dog is going to attack or even if they will attack, as there is the unpredictability factor with animals, and that can be said for all, granted some more than others are more likely too.

If you look at it n the context of, the guy comes in with an aggressive dog, you adv PTS, he said no, but gets the dog hyped up before leaving(ie goading him to attack) this would be the same as a drunk leaving th pub jangling his car keys, so you would have prior knowledge of a potential attack..or crash......... if you see what I mean.

Anyway if the guy takles the dog home and muzzles it evertime it is in company, that would be like the guy coming for a drink but leaving the car at home...... lol does that make sense???

Re: Hypothetically speaking.......

On a slightly different note, publicans can be held accountable for letting a known drunk get behind the wheel of a car.......surely dogs are just as dangerous....

Re: Hypothetically speaking.......

I would not have thought so Fi, at the end of the day it is the owners decision, we can only advise.

Re: Hypothetically speaking.......

I shouldn't think the vet could be held accountable. The vet wouldn't have any authority to force the owner to pts the dog, and so if the owner changes their mind the vet would have to follow this. Wouldn't be a nice situation to be in though!

Re: Hypothetically speaking.......

I don't think so, cos if you think about it we see aggressive dogs every week.

I know of a dog who had bitten several people and we had recommended pts on several occasions and it was only when said dog bit the owners child that they decided on pts.

we are there to look after the animal not joe public i think so it is def the owners fault and noting to do with the vet at all
