I had a vax one until the hubby got his mitts on it and broke it worked really well especially when I had an elderly cat that couldn't always make it to the litter tray in time

I've just brought a vax from Robert Dyas, haven't used it yet, but its really light and it only cost £55. Not too bad even if it doesn't leave my carpets completely clean!

I would reckon you would do a waaaaaay better job than me- the novelty of rug doctoring did wear thin! lol!

Hi everyone... I did hire a rug doctor from Safeways a few years ago but it blew up on me! Half way thru a carpet and it blew one of my fuses......I returned it and got my money back, but I found it heavy and awkward to use, and B noisey! And it put me off trying again,

I agree with Fi about the rug doctor- I expected the carpets to be drier than they were. I did a good enough job though.

borrow my in laws vax every now and then, however they dont work like you see them on tele, still had to get down on my hands and knees for stubborn stains, but grim coloured water when id fini ......yuck

I have hired the Rug Doctor on occasions from Homebase and it was very good but left the carpets feeling a bit wet, so it would have been better to do it then not walk on it for a few days, (instead of doing it the night before our Christmas party!).

I have now bought one from Littlewoods, I think the make is Swan it cost about £60 and it does make a difference, although I wished I'd gone for a Vax cos they seem to have a better name.

Whichever one I used, I found them hard work and noisy - on some carpets I didn't really notice a difference - despite the colour of the water!! Other carpets they work a treat. I decided to buy one, as I have 3 dogs who regularly use my top landing for a litter tray when they get the squits! Works well for that!

Think you can hire decent carpet cleaners on a daily basis. I have a Vax carpet cleaner - its a few years old now, but I'm still ashamed when I see the muck that it gets off my carpets.
