Thank you, I know it's proper shocking, everyone at the practice was devastated. One of the Vets didn't even want to tell me as he knew i'd be so upset. It's the worst thing I've seen since working as a Vet Nurse.

Hey Claire, sorry I should have updated at the time but was so upset! The poor girlie died 4 days after being admitted, it was so sad. A PM was done and her insides were rotten. I just hope something is done to the people that allowed this to happen to her, we keep hearing more and more shocking stories about the owners but can't take it as gospel.

Hi lavetnurse, thanks for that! I considered asking a local hospital as the products all came up in NHS articles when I googled them, if we decide to go down the parenteral route I will certainly give them a phone.... thanks again!

Hi everyone Im fairly new on here and never posted on here before. I have worked in equine practices and we have used total parental nutrition for neonatal and dummy foals and we gave a horse that had a 3 week old gastric impaction partial parental nutrition. We got all of ours from a hospital ready made up for us. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone!, today she hasn't vomited and we have been syringe feeding her liquivite little and often, she wasn't keen on the a-d, have ordered the other food mentioned, thanks again! And the SSPCA have been in and looked at her, so fingers crossed something gets done.

currently it isnt possible to provide complete nutrition parentally in this country in veterinary patients. There are solutions you can use which will provide calories but as they arent complete diets, they arent suitable as the only form of nutrition for more than 2- days or you will end up with even more complications. Thats what we were taught at congress anyway! could you not place a jujunostomy (sp?) tube, as this would bypass the stomach and therefore mean she is unlikely to vomit but a complete diet could be administered. alternatively very small amounts of diluted food through a tube (micronutrition) and build it up if she will tolerate it.

I know its not parenteral but do hills still do n/d - would be able to get away with smaller quantities and still get in a decent amount of calories.Have seen some really good results with it in the past

have only used parenteral feeding a couple of times and neither had a good outcome so maybe thats what puts me off.

she does look quite shocking!

However, my sisters boxer looked really emaciated after having pups 4 years ago, she would have appeared to the public as a real cruelty/starvation case, which wasnt the case as she was being looked after really well by my sister and also my parents. However, I dont recall her looking just as emaciated as that little lab

That's the poor wee girl (ignore the state of the kennels - we're in the middle of a re-furb!)

She was admitted for a c-section just over 8 weeks ago and weighed approx 30kg, never came back for any post-op checks and is now looking like this so sad.

Thanks Claire! Had actually read that earlier - it's a good article!

We've tried her on a-d but it's too much for her so wanting to skip the whole digestive stage, it's truly shocking the state she is in, SSPCA don't seem to be too interested either, but that's a whole other topic! It just breaks your heart the state she is in, the *** owners got 5 pups off her and sold them and obviously didn't care about her at all, she's such a good dog too.

Has the Lab got a feeding tube in situ? Would tend to use something like Fortol or Enteral Care tinned diets which work well. Has he had any investigations? Hope he turns out okay, poor lad.
