just wanted to say thanks for all your support with this topic!! really appreciate the advice you have all given but i felt it was best to remove the post. we have since spoken more with the head of department who was actually really suportive and we hope that some changes will be made.

do not know who arl is but she sounds unhappy in fact that post came over as very threatening in tone I guess she is media relations in charge of good will ROFLMAO

I only hope that the student who posted this has not been threatened. I would also point out that the colleges have a duty of care that THEY need to fulfil...does that include threatening people on their professional website?

maybe student removed it of their own accord? It would be nice if there could be a good outcome from this for both sides but sadly I dont see that happening, I can understand the uni involved being annoyed that this has been aired on forum - but then if it had been dealt with before somebody felt so frustrated they felt the need to make that intial post then none of this would be happening. (and no I am not taking sides).

Both sides now have something in common they are both upset , the student (the one we have heard from) lacks confidence in teaching skills and the ?tutor ( again the one we have heard from) is obviously annoyed that their skills are being called into question. . Both sides need each other equally - students need teachers to help them get that qualification , that gets them a job but equally teachers need students or they dont have a job. A high handed attitude from either side is not going to help anybody but talking it through reasonably might just resolve a few issues?

Yes it is a public website for vet nurses to come and chat. On here we are a community and if we need help we ask for it. If someone comes and asks for help we shar eour expriences advise them what to do and try and support them in whatever way can. I don't think it was fair to make the student remove her post. She needed help and we tried to help her.

I look forward to hearing from you. I doubt anyone however actually listens to their students in Napier well this was my exprience anyways. Maybe asking students how they feel about certain issues in the uni would help improve student satisfaction and staff satisfaction.

What I have said on here is nothing that I haven't already said to the head of course, many times over the years.

Does it not make you wonder why the students are coming on here for help & support, instead of going to their course tutuors?

Feel free to be in touch and I look forward to speaking to you, but I still wouldn't take Napier students on placement.

well I left fi it was that bad! Don't suppose you need a full time student fi whos nearly level 3 ? lol Got a few friends still on the course myt let them know! I had a friend who was made to take a year out cos they couldnt get her a placement last summer after telling her nowhere could have her! Well wait till i tell her this LOL!

I got in touch with the uni last year regarding summer placement and they didn't want to place anyone with us! I was crying out for help last summer and couldn't get a student at all. If you're looking for placement this year, please email me as I will have space again this year.

The uni is awful! I was sent to newcastle on my first 3 placements! Ok great practice but am from glasgow grr

So fi you no longer take those students? The finding a summer placement was a jk in itself so few ppl would take us!

Having been an assessor for different TPs for this particular college since the start of the course, I would say that the problems have been there since then. They did have a very good lecturer at the very beginning who tried to push the course in the right direction and ended up leaving because of the staff she worked with. I have known several other nurses who have worked as lecturers there and it seems the problems start at the top and no amount of telling the college / uni how bad things were seemed to help.

They also put a rule in place, that if you took their students, you couldn't take students from the other 2 colleges in Scotland, which I think is atrocious! TPs are scarce as it is and I, for one, decided not to take any students from them at all! So instead of increasing the number of TPs on their books, they have decreased them.

Louise - I wouldn't want to work there, despite the large pay packet and lovely holidays! But maybe you are the person to change everyone's way of thinking!

While I sympathise with anyone on this course etc - maybe all that is needed to change the course around is ONE person? Someone willing to take on a role there to improve the teaching of the course and ultimately, the students taking the course.

I just wouldnt! The staff just are not nice! Theres one lecturer who is just so up herself u would struggle not to want to hit her! Then theres the fact the disorganisation is unbelievable! Am sure they are stuggling with staff problems and i saw a few lecturers leave in my two years!

I think alot needs to change to improve student and staff satifaction.

I was thinking about applying there for a teaching job when I finish my current studies. If they had been looking for a part time lecturer to teach the behaviour & welfare modules (and similar) I'd have applied like a shot

Hi i went to you uni and did the first 2 years of the course!

I sympathise greatly with you. I work best with support and guidance none which i was given and so i messed up 2nd year but managed to scamble passes in the resits.

However I decided to leave the couse as I just couldnt take the unpaid placements, disorganised modules and horrible nasty attitude of some of the staff!

I am now in thrid year of a customised prgrame and should graduate with animal health and something. I am gutted that i wont be a vet nurse and gutted tht i didnt go to telford. Trust me you are not alone with your feelings. Every year is the same. MY advice is complain to uni directly can't think who deals with complains but am sure it wouldnt be too hard to find out. There was an inspection last year which i hear they just passed!

It is an awful run course and to those who stick it out great! I failed pathology last year because i had no idea what we were meant to be doing!
