THE dangerous dogs act is sooo outdated. for instance in the uk MY GSD is fine to have.. but in other countries he would be illegal. lets be fair all these dogs that people say are dangerous. how many of us have been bitten by one... its usually the little ones or the collie types that i have been bitten by.

most of these issues for animals that have become dangerous is usually down to owners poor behaviour and treatment.

The amount of responses suggesting that every one of these dogs is a fighting machine is ridiculous. Any dog can bite , these will obviously do more damage. It's not unheard of for someone to have one of these dogs or a cross and it to live a normal life and not actually do anything wrong you know ! I know at least 5 or 6.

I think you really need real experiences before you can form an opinion and you and I Shakira have that Which is why we are prepared to help these dogs.

Hey, I know this is an old post I was doing some research into dog fighting. However I would highly recommed you watch 'The Champions' it will really show the true nature of abused ex-fighting dogs. It is actually quite difficult to gets dogs to fight and I have video evidence of this if you are interested. Many victims can be rehommed and be lovely dogs-even with other dogs after time. If you are interested I run a campaign known as The SaveABulls, we re on all social media site-check us out, I hope that we can change your mind that breed discrimination is wrong and unsafe.

I would also like to add that the Pit Bull is not a real breed and therefore staffies crossed with Labradors are common victims of breed specific bans. This also includes puppies in rescue centres that are under developed but can be called a pit bull and be PTS. This law does NOT prevent dog bites which is why they were put on the DDA, instead it has had the opposite effect-dog bites have increased by 76% in 10 years. It does not make the public safer or prevent people being bitten. Owning a staffie cross is scary and it is unfair that responsible owners can have their beloved family pet seized and even killed because its legs are too long.

A neighbour of ours has recently bought a "pedigree" american stafford. He is still waiting for the paperwork as they tried to fob him off with a homemade pedigree.

He realised when he stood his 16 week old boy against my 14 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier girl the differences (esp. as he towers over her), reluctantly he still saying it might have pit in it after seeing the difference in shape of head etc. Its off lead, no muzzle etc....

I agree.

Yes there may be nice Pitbulls. However it is still within their breeding to be a fighting dog. Surely this will show at some point.

I remember working in practice with a "nice Pitbull" all the other nurses loved him. Said he was really friendly, could do anything with him. One day their German Shepherd came in as an emergency as the Pitbull attacked him, unprovoked and bit the poor Sherpherds pinnaes off.

If a dog is brough up as a fighting dog then obviously it will be aggressive, but to say all of these breeds are aggressive is wrong, we have a lovely client with pit bull terriers, they have to be muzzled in public and neutered but he keeps them legally and adhered to the rules set by the government as they are an illegal breed.

They are 2 of the lovliest dogs you could ever meet and if you bring dogs up properly then they are unlikely to be aggressive whatever their breed

I agree with Nick. These dogs are illegal for a reason. They are bred solely as fighting dogs.

Yes, any dog can attack, I've seen nasty Yorkies etc. in my time, but the prevelance of this occuring compared to a fighting breed is highly different.

In the same way that parent dogs with behavioural problems often produce offspring with inherited behavioural traits. Dogs that are bred solely for fighting will produce offspring with this characteristic trait.....

I am not disputing that any dog may attach but fighting dogs are bred solely to fight, so they will do just that

a "chav" client phoned in today to book new staffi pup in for 1st vacs she said" my boyfriend thought it would be nice to buy our 4 month old baby a staffi puppy for xmas" i found it so hard not to tell her what a complete idiot she was , i ask you buying a 4mth old a puppy for xmas, i spent the whole day mad!!!!!

The reason why certain breeds are banned such as Pit Bulls and Japanese Tossa's are because these breeds are bred solely for fight

I do agree that in the majority of cases that the owners/upbringing are to blame and any dog has the potential to attack/halm/kill etc..... but the dogs on the dangerous dog act 1991 are there for a reason. Fighting is their pedigree (if that makes sense) and this is why they are banned in this country!

I can see your point,

But any dog has potential to be dangerous and even kill if treated like shit, and by the sounds of it these dogs of his were wound up on purpose to make them aggressive, such irresponible ownership... I hate people like this, and now a member of his own family is dead becuase of his idiotic behaviour.
