its because we think " right im going for a run" so you leave the house warm up and run! there is no build up, no training and it feels bloody awful so you give up! even when i was doing my marathon training i would get it somedays. they call it the toxic 10 minuites! if you can get through that 10 minutes then it gets easier and you start to enjoy the run.

the breakthrough for me was a book called "running made easy" by the authours of Zest magazine. the training plan is soooo simple and will take you from never having run a single step up to training for a marathon. you start with a mix of walking and running and build up. its well worth looking for!

anyway i can help. just PM me if you like in case i miss your post on here.

firstly congratulations! i started out running to lose weight and ended up running this years london marathon for the blue cross!! so beware its addictive.

the first thing to do is get along to a good specialist running shop and get fitted for some trainers that suit your feet, the way your foot hits the ground and the type of running you are going to be doing (road / trail etc). forget JJB sports or similar you need a specialist running shop!. Runners world magazine usually has a list in the back. and as for gear there is such a huge variety it depends on personal preference and again the type of training you are going to be doing.

no matter what a good sports bra is a must!! and running socks (sounds nuts but well worth the money to prevent blisters)

if you will be treadmill training then, shorts and a light training t shirt is all you will need. however if you will be training outdoors then you may want leggings, several layers (long / short sleeve) and a showerproof and reflective jacket.

again, the gear guides in runners world magazine and on their website forums are a great source of help.

all the very best of luck and im very envious ( im six months pregnant and completely unable to run at the moment)
