Quick Shortbread Recipe

Ingredients:

100g cornflour
100g icing sugar
250g plain flour
250g butter (although I used flora and they were just as nice!)

Method:

· Sift the flour, cornflour & icing sugar into a bowl & mix together

· Rub in the butter to form a stiff paste (you will get very sticky hands!!)

· Flour a smooth hard surface & a rolling pin & roll out the dough to about 1cm thick

· Cut out shapes as desired

· Put on a greased (or non-stick) baking tray & cook for about 15minutes on 180c/Gas 7.

· Remove from the oven & place on a wire rack to cool

· Decorate if you like (I used writing icing tubes)

yeah the reindeer was my favourite too, shame I haven't got any photos of what they all looked like decorated - the reindeer looked really cute!

I got the cutters from ebay - only £3 for the set of 4.

Thanks for the idea, but I don't think I have many to actually use! all the one's I fancy using are stored on the PC or my phone.

Just remembered that I do have a photo printer with 2 packs of glossy paper in a box upstairs! good times!

Am tempted by idea of promises card too Eddie, thanks.

hubby wants ps3 game, but he understands I can't afford to get it now, plus as we're going up to my mum's for the christmas weekend, then he's going straight back to work on the 28th, he's not gonna be able to play it until then, or possibly the 29th, so has suggested that he doesn't mind waiting till just after chirstmas, which means, I can write out a promise/voucher on a piece of card, and get it for him after I've got paid on the 28th

Feeling much more positive about things now, have looked thru mine & hubby's accounts & have planned out a budget to try & keep ourselves from charges.

Cakes sound a fab idea, can do red or green icing! Might be able to fork out on some cheap lil christmas decorations to go on the top!

have also been thinking about the photo idea, can't do dvd/cd's, but have been looking thru some really nice ones I have & am thinking I could have them blown up to 8x6 at the supermarket (which only costs like £1) and buy a cheap frame to put it in, or print a few off on the machine & buy a little photo album to put them in
(am tempted to do one for my hubby of his cat - she has lymphoma & probably won't be around for next christmas, so would be a nice memory book almost)

Am on a mission now! Thanks v. much for all your kind thoughts

sorry to hear about your money worries.You are getting good advise from people on here.What about giving hand written "promises". You can promise to give your time to friends and family, for instance you could take nephews and nieces out for an afternoon, giving their parents a breather. Or babysitting vouchers, or taking mum and dad out [they can pay!] Another thought re antidepressants, dont try to wean off them during the winter months.as low light levels can affect you.Try again in the sping. Chin up girl xx

I totally agree with you Kezza - I'm struggling too but everytime I take on extra work I get really ill. It's sad that so many of us are struggling, especially given the hard work, committment and dedication our jobs require.

Thats a great idea, we're struggling too and the thought of Christmas loaming is depressing as can't afford anything. At this rate Christmas dinner will be egg and chips (not for the first time either)

Its definitely a shock to the system Rachel. My ex-husband is bankrupt, I am struggling to work full time and be a mum to my 2 young children, and with christmas just around the corner, financially, things are not looking good. As well as that, we are in danger of losing our house to clear his debts

Thanks Saskia, I have looked into christmas temping, even as far as getting an application form for a card shop in a nearby town, but my family disuaded me saying it'd be too much for me

Nick, you're right, I'm just about to start a new job with a franchised company & remember the contract mentioning me devoting my working time to them, so... probably wouldn't be able to work at other practice.
