Want to see if i could

Re: Waiting for college....

currently everyone is in limbo awaiting the outcome of the RCVS review into the NVQ.
At the moment most colleges only do a September intake (but next September will start the new course whatever it may be like), some do a January intake but you had to apply in the summer for that, and a few do block release but that is still per term so again won't start until next autumn term.
Ask your TP what they intend to do regards training you under the new rules 0 and bear in mind you may need a week in large animal, equine, exotics and also in an animal non veterinary field for a week each. Ask if they are prepared for you to be absent 2 days a week at college, or only to send you part time one day a week, if the proposals for the new rules stand.
Usually the wait for us folks has been to get into a TP, or for those in TP's that the practice themselves wants you to prove yourself before sending (and paying for) you on the course and starting the portfolio. It's unlikely to be a lack of college places.

As others have said, but to slightly confuse you probably.....
a TP is attached to one or maybe two colleges for coursework providing. It will usually use one as a VNAC for the portfolio work (most TP's have one only and the same for both parts). However some places (I went to one who were very helpful intiially but unfortunately they couldn't afford to pay for a trainee beyond 3 months!), allow you to use a different college for your coursework, and their allocated (closest) one as a VNAC.
Again though you would need to have spoken to them and got it all sorted long before the college year started, so again you are looking at next September for starting.

Talk to your TP about what they intend to provide for you between now and September, and how they see the new rules affecting them and therefore your staring the official training next year.

Re: Waiting for college....

[quote user="zookeeper"]

It depends on the practice as to what college they send you to. Even if you found a college position, if you're practice can't start your training at this time the college place isn't worth much alone.

Re: Waiting for college....

Hi

I live in Surrey also, I start at M.Y.F college in Aldershot Surrey in January.

I see you work for Medivet? as I understand they have there own training centre in Watford.

So if you want to train sooner would it be worth looking for another SVN position.

There is Donald Kingsnorth in Chobham Surrey, and Alma vets in Windsor advertising?

Hope this helps
