In my current job they are opening on the saturday as normal which seems kinda mad....I appreciate it's a saturday, but it's going to be dead quiet & stops anyone who works it from having a good time on xmas day...then closed until the tuesday, and I was going to be on call for all of it....

However...! I've just got a new job where we shut early afternoon on xmas eve & open on the monday....and I don't have to go back in until the Tuesday!!

Bargaining tool is that I have to work the new years bank holiday, but I've worked that before so am not too bothered!

Our christmas hours are, normal working day christmas eve, then christmas off the saturday was decided that we would stay closed but we are doing an 2hr clinic on the monday. I am on call christmas eve, christmas day, sat, sun and mon but I dont mind because I get new years off!

Christmas eve 4.30 (3 members of staff rota'd till 7.30 incase of emergencies)

Christmas Day & Boxing day (sat) Closed - emergency on call

Sunday 27 Closed -10-11 emergencies only

Monday 28 (official bank holiday) 10-12.30 longer if needed 3 nurses in to cover

We'll be open til needed on christmas eve - usually about 4 then emergency on call. emergency christmas day. open as normal the sat and sunday, bank holiday hours (surgery 9-2) and then open as usual ther rest of holiday period.

We're open xmas eve till 6:30, not xmas day (only having to go in if inpatients) then open our normal hours on the saturday 9-12:30 and then closed the sunday and monday.

Not looking forward to working xmas, will have to be careful with how much I drink and eat on xmas day as i'll be up early the next day eeeep

I'ts similar for new years.....its weird how holidays and these time of years blind into just normal days

I agree Nick!!!

Thankfully we go down to skeleton staff as of 6pm on the 23rd till the 4th Jan
There will be 2 nurses in 8-4 and 10-6 every day and the vets will be doing their usual OOH rota.

I have heard rumours this may change next year though as it is a long time to be shut for "normal" business. (We close when the Uni closes technically)

They are bad enough when you just wanna go home on your weekend off, let alone at the holiday period! Anyways, that is a completely different rant I shall stop now!

As far as I am aware, closed friday, saturday, sunday and monday! Have our own 24hr clinics to deal with our out of hours (done a few xmas night shifts in the past so not working this xmas season!)

They better not change those rules. :o/ will be well not happy!

I agree Nick!!!

Thankfully we go down to skeleton staff as of 6pm on the 23rd till the 4th Jan

Regarding new years eve, we dont close until normal time - 7pm. so we all sit around doing nothing apart from the odd urgent case fro about 5pm.

We will close lunchtime xmas eve right through to tues am. No on call eiher as boss going away soall our on call being do by emergency service! Yippee. However I have then got to work 8.30 - 7 the rest of that week due to others being off - not impressed :(

Christmas Eve normal working day, but prob no routine ops.

25th, 26th, 27th and 28th shut emergencies only.

29th normal working day

That sounds like one of my old bosses we had to all work good Friday (easter) cos he didn't wanna loose out on cash even thou we were open on the sat normal hours!

hi there we are closed christmas day,stephens day,the sunday and also the bank hol mon...that is a bit of a lame excuse from your manager trying to say the mon is stephens day/boxing day..we all know its not...bosses can be so annoying sometimes

We're closed Boxing Day (Sat) and Monday but open for our usual "emergencies only" 1hr session on the Sunday. Now that won't get abused by people who've forgotten to order repat prescriptions will it? (Obviously anticipated as I noticed on the diary that there are 2 vets on instead of one and I've just agreed to swap and do that morning for someone else! Doh!

We are a hospital so have someone on call all the time anyway but opening hours are-

Christmas eve- close 4pm (usually 7.30pm)
Christmas day- closed all day, emergencies only
Boxing day- open sunday hours (2-3pm surgery for emergencies/ urgent cases)
Sunday- open normal sunday hours
Bank hol mon- open sunday hours
Tuesday &wednesday- open normal hours
New Years eve- close 4pm (usually 7.30pm)
New years day- open sunday hours
Sat/ sun- normal working hours

The boss did look into this as he felt being closed for so many days in a row could potentially be a problem. Our local business people said that as boxing day falls on a saturday it is classed as a normal retail day, thats why the monday is given as a bank hol. The above is hours for our main hospital, branch closes at 4 xmas eve and is shut until the wed.

I start my new job at a Companion care surgery next Monday.

Not sure what days they will be open/closed? as I know they have to be open when the Pets at home stores are open. So probably will have hardly any time off

We close at 3pm Christmas eve (thursday) and then open normal hours on Tuesday. We still provide 24hr emergency cover, but have given our clients plenty of pre-warning. The nurses on shift cover as appropriate but get the usual extras for working x-mas / bank hols etc.

Now I don't mean to brag but I'm working xmas eve, finish 8am xmas morning and then I have 13 days off! Whoop!

Yeah I'd rather work the Monday than the Saturday! I'll still be digesting at that point!

Hello,

Because Boxing day falls on Saturday it makes the Monday a bank holiday. I would rather open normal hours Monday and have the 3 days off apart from emergencies.

funny you should say that because on my friends calender it says the monday is boxing day. i agree with you tho, the day after xmas day has always been boxing day!
