Have been using valerian for years - in fact when I was using my cats for filming (Bomber, Oscar and Fossil) we always used to get premium rates because they were working exceptionally well to cues, and valerian was always in there somewhere. - ie one of them had to walk really close alongside somebody and 'trip' them up - so we rubbed valerian on the actors trouser leg! worked very very well

will add I only used cats for filming that were happy to do it - if they were unhappy we stopped. Could never do anything like that with the boys now - these are a really unruly pair

Re: Must have cat toy

it is the valerian not the catnip.
Does catnip affect all cats?

No - not all cats react to catnip. Susceptibility to behavioural changes has been shown to be inherited as a dominant trait in cats. This means that cats with one or both copies of the autosomal dominant gene will show behavioural changes when exposed to catnip. The effect is not seen in kittens, and in fact very young kittens tend to avoid catnip. Susceptibility to catnip starts to develop once kittens are six to eight weeks of age, fully developing when they are about 12 weeks old
