Agree totally with BengalcatRVN - I've had the pleasure of working with one of the vets from one of the featured practices a number of times while I was an emergency locum and she is one of the best vets I've ever worked with in over 10yrs in practice. I would trust her 110% with any of my pets. Think she looks in on this forum occasionally and hope she knows who she is! :)

I wasn't implying that it was and the presenter DID actually say a couple of times that many many clinets are very happy and many good practices were seen by the undercover reporter. Was just passing my opinion that the programme seemed to be more aimed at Medivet than at the profession as a whole, that's all. No offence intended.

However, sadly, there are probably a lot of viewers out there who take what they see on telly as gospel and will tar us all with the same brush. Me, I'm just in this profession for the great salary, wonderful sociable working hours and easy life of a non-physically tiring job....

Well as I'm having a bit of a mid life crisis about hitting 40 next year, I'm quite happy to be decribed as a little girl. Not so happy about the silly bit of course.

One interesting point though... the RCVS said that whilst they can discipline RVN's, vets etc, the only way they have any jurisdiction over non-students (ie what the programme are calling trainees, except they aren't actually training for anything formal), is via the vet, presumably only if they are RCVS registerred. As part of my detailed research into my eventual move abroad, I discovered that a VN had left a practice in Cyprus as she was being expected to do things which no nurse whould ever do (not so minor routine ops being one of them!) The vet in question could not accept that as the nurse was still registered in the UK, she refused as she could be struck off (and was obviously not qualified to do this anyway). It then transpired that a lay person (very experienced with animals but absolutely no formal training as a nurse or anything else) was also carrying out procedures which UK nurses would not be allowed to do. So this raises the question of who regulates them, presumably no one? So if a UK nurse came off the RCVS register and worked as a nurse, not listed, not qualified, presumably they could do whatever the vet in that foreign country allowed them to do? Bloody scary thought and has made me think very long and hard about the questions I would need to ask before embarking on working in certain practices abroad and think even harder about which vets I'd take my own pets to if I moved abroad!!! Sorry, slightly off topic but prompted by the programme.

christ almighty medivet are coming across a little bit on the shoddy side to say the least, i can only imagine how much grief thier surgeries are gonne get tomorrow - even the ones not involved in the undercover investigation.

Me too now - at 2 "nurses" to be precise cos the rest of us will have to bear the brunt of what's shown tonight!

I cant beleive this - Sandy Trees doesnt know the rules and he is Chair of the RVC!

He said trainees cant do any thing unless a Vet is present!
