We have 2 vets that advise clients not to give insulin and not to feed before doing glucose test. I feel this disrupts there routine as if the client routinely gives at 7am then when

Re: Diabetics

I run the diabetic clinics at our practice on my one of bgs i get them to bring them in 6hrs post morning injection, for glucose curves it depends on the client i either get them in and take first bg before their insuling and food and we then give it at their normal time or i get them in after there morning inj and food, some of my clients test at home and do their own curves they've all bought the alphatrack machines so there they are the same as the one that we use in practice

Re: Diabetics

We get them to do their usual routine, otherwise it doesn't really give a true picture of what their normal blood glucose would be, Some vets have strange ideas don't they!

Re: Diabetics

We're the same as steph, normal routine and take the sample 4-6 hours post injection.

All our vets have slightly different views on diabetes but luckily for the main points they are pretty similar.
If you use caninsulin you could ask your intervet to come in and do some cpd on stabilisation/ monitoring.

Re: Diabetics

We keep to the routine, so usually they come in at 8/830 only a hour or so after their morning dose

Re: Diabetics

hey

We always always get them to carry on with their routine, you don't get a true picture if they are not fed or given their insulin!!!!!!

if we do just a single test we try to get the sample around the nadir (so usually about 5 hours post insulin)
