i have worked at many places over the years and i put 3 people down one was a head nurse from 9 years ago now (have worked with her since), one was an old boss from 4 yrs ago and the other is a vet i worked with 2 yrs ago.

Well I know my head nurse would be ok to give me a reference because she always said she would when I was still at uni. Thinking about it I also got a reference from one of the nurses I worked with at tiggywinkles when I was applying to uni. Hmm will have a think about someone else. I feel I should choose wisely

You could also include a character referee....for instance someone who you know through a hobby / outside interest, who is in a senior role, who can perhaps give a non clinical perspective for you, and promote qualities that may not be so apparent within work? Depends on the sort of job youn are going for, but some employers like to have 3 referees, one of which could be a character type reference.

The benefit to this type of referee is that as it isn't job related, they could be contacted prior to any job offer. I would always advise anyone to check if someone is happy to provide a reference as well - some organisations are unhappy for less senior members of staff to provide references.

Trouble is I did the degree route and so did various placements. Hmmm. I have been at my practice on and off for the last 5 years though.

No my current employer isn't aware but I'm sure they would still give me a good reference.

Don' forget some places like to have X number of years worth of references. I've had to give 5 years worth of references in the past

On my CV i have my previous boss and have the statement underneath.

Other references available on request.

I guess it depends if your current employer are aware of you looking for another job or not

hmm when i applied for my new job i had only worked in one practice and i put both the partners down as my reference.Guess it depends who you think will give you a fab report heehee.
