You need to join as a gold member if you want insurance, think its about £55 if you're over 21 or £40 if you're under 21, but it's a little while since I renewed my subscription! Also students get a 10% discount, don't know if that applies to you or not? You don't need any qualifications to join - in fact you can't do your BHS stages until you are a member.

I will definately look into joining the BHS... does anyone know if you have to have completed any of the BHS stages to join? Because I haven't completed any before :(

Hehe I just realised how lazy I sound... I will look for myself in a bit just juggling portfolio and revision... booooo!

I was going to say join the BHS. Great cover and loads of benefits!

Otherwise some horse insurance policies cover the rider/owner too.

I'm with SEIB but don't know if they do cover for just riding. Have claimed from them before when my horse had a tendon injury and had no problems. I'm also a member of BHS but have never had to claim, lots of near misses though

I joined british horse society too as their gold menebership incldes insurance seemed the cheapest way to me!

I used to be with Pet Plan on their horse rider's insurance when I had a horse on part loan (although I am going back about 12yrs!). The owner had full insurance to cover against the usual illness, theft etc but mine covered me plus any horse involved in an accident whilst I was out riding. Thankfully, I never had cause to claim so can't comment on that aspect but based on my own experience of claiming for my other pets through them, have always found them to be excellent and speedy.

Someone at work uses Petplan for her and her daughters, they don't have their own horse, just ride others.

Hi,

I joined the British Horse Society as a gold member (£57/pa) as this includes rider's insurance + publiability insurance for any horse that you are riding. I also get access to all the other members perks so it seemed the best deal to me.

Thats who my Aunt has her insurance with, when I used to ride I never had insurance, i was lucky on many occassions. Had lots of near misses!!
