We had a receptionist who would rather disturb the vet in surgery than ask one of us qualified nurses to speak to clients over the phone, even when we were standing right next to her and said we can answer those questions!!!!!!!!!

We did VN week for the first time this year. And we're doing an open day at the start of the new year (shall be looking for the open day threads on here to remind me of some of the fab suggestions!). We had one a few years ago and was VERY successful, clients loved it .

We had a cat hospitalised, it was on IVFT, owner came in for it to be PTS. They were left with the kitty to spend some time before the time came. One of the nurses caught them playing around with the drip pump and turning it off! They said it was ok, they knew what they were doing cos they were trainee human nurses. Uh, hello, that drip is giving us a patent venous access so euth will be far less stressful for the kitty

Well, all I can advise to all of you who have posted on this thread............MAKE PROPER USE OF VN WEEK!!!!!

Make your clients aware of who you are, what your role is within the practice and what exactly we can do!! Its not hard!

I was at a party recently and there was a "human" nurse there - she was introduced to me as "this is so-and-so, she's a real nurse", put me in a bad mood for the rest of the night! She also said she sells fob watches and stethoscopes on the net and was surprised to have some VNs buying stuff, she said "I didn't know you would use thing like that" - it's not THAT different is it?!?!

And vets are the world's worst at bandages - I was holding a dog for my vet to bandage recently and he kept dropping the bandage then rolling it up again really roughly so it was twisting, and he had the pressure all different, I eventually took it off him and made him hold the dog while I bandaged cause I couldn't bear it any more!

my mum phone me up (she lives over 200miles away) and moaned that her 'vet' did a horrible job on the dogs bandage and made him take it off and asked for a nurse to do it properly!

My sis is a "human" nurse and everyone is really proud. I just get asked when I'll be a proper vet!!!

Also the other day my sis said she was going to specialise in diabetes and I asked out of interest if she saw more people with DM or DI - she didn't know what I meant at all let alone the difference!

But still everyone is proud and she earns a hell of a lot more for half the hours! Sorry rant over! I have also met nurses who are amazing and really know their stuff.

This annoys me so much, complete ignorance! I must admit the human nurses I've met have a lot of respect for VNs, especially because of the training involved in different species. Its members of the public who are more difficult to change opinions.

I hate it when people ask if I'm training to be a vet. To human nurses go on to be doctors?!

I love being a nurse, I worked hard to be a nurse and I do a damn good job.

And when they treat me like an idiot too, coz I'm not the vet so have no idea whats going on...... AAARRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!

That reminds me of working for the PDSA and clients from private practice always saying, "When I was at the proper vets....".
