Hey I'm right there with you guys - even after qualifying my wages are dire and I am struggling. Hopefully things will start to look up soon but it is hard to stay positive with other half out of work and now moved out and no part time jobs interested in taking me on around these hours.

ive been stuck for cash also this month, so took my old jewellery to a shop in town and got £159- i was very impressed!

Maybe not a comfort but what I always try and remember is that there will always be someone worse of than yourself!

I sat and did all the maths this month and I will have about £100 left by the time i buy food pay bills and rent and get to uni and back... bad times! But on the upside its winter and cosy nyts in are good! I made a huge pot of lentil soup which is always cheap to make, tomato pasta sauce again cheap to make! I guess for people with no job and little money you just got to work out how to cut right down!vShop at lidils... soo cheap!! Hard but to exprience and appreciate the good times you have to exprience the bad times!

is your hubby not entitled to income support? if he isnt entitled to contributions based JSA anymore and isnt able to get income based JSA it might be worth applying for it? It is a means tested benefit and as I understand it your total savings must be worth less than 5,000.

since I lost my SVN job at the end of September I am earning between £20 and £50 a week at my charity vets job.
Hubby lost his job last December and now has lost his jobseekers allowance because he reached 6 months of payments.
We've tried all ways tgo get benefits but fall into the black hole due to age,no children,self-employment, not enough to pay on mortgage, not in council housing, not enough hours worked etc etc.
CAB suggested separating, giving up self-employment or taking out my isa (thought government encouraged us to save but obviously not), or sell up and downsize (thereby placing mum in a home and getting rid of all our animals). Very helpful people, I'd recommend them to anyone - along with people at the local jobcentre.
Next hubby was told to sell his bike because he said he couldn't afford to pay for it to be insured (thereby meaning it's very difficult to go for job interviews or get non office hours job due to public transport limitations to the village).
To cap it all mum's electric cooker failed and we had to put a new one on the credit card.
And tonight the upright freezer died, so we've been cooking and eating what we can, and stuffing veg and bread into the two fridge/freezers.
Outgoings on house are around £750 a month so we've stopped the mortgage and are about to ask for extension on payment and also add a top up mortgage or loan to it.
No jobs around, even applying for NHS jobs (although one as a porter of pathology samples was thrown out due to the amount of applications having a better skill fit than mine!), supermarkets and just about anything in the paper that doesn't require a specialist qualification.
We don't mention the student loan, credit card debts, and the debts I ran up doing the SVN job for three months living away from home.

Being a failed SVN certainly is causing bankruptcy to loom around the corner.

Think there should be a charity set up for poor penniless student VN'S and QVN's with no cash like us. I'm in debt every month without fail.

Know the feeling of being skint! Well I have 28 quid left on my £2000 over draft ekkk! I get student loan on friday, which straight away more than half is rent and have to buy my contacts off that! After that am going to be watching every penny! Can barely afford food this week eek!! Being so skint sucks!!

My mums not such a star, she reckons i should learn the hard way... nice eh?

They are also trying to phase out staff on locum rates - they prefer staff to be on contracts rather than the locum rate of pay.

have just been told that vets now new rule coming in is you work for them as paye or ltd company they will not accept self employed locums any more.

Yeah North East. Just looked at neither G-head or Middlesborough are looking. M'boro are looking for a part time VN but no locums

I know this feeling well so can sympathise I did what Finnigan mentioned by arranging all my direct debits to come out on a particular day, usually a day or two after payday. I would also draw out £100 to last per week for shopping, petrol etc so I was reducing using my debit card as much as this is where I lost track of my spending.

Is it possible for you to cover odd shifts for places like Vets Now? Lots of places are advertising for their Christmas staff now so you may be able to get some temp work to help tide you over.

i know the feeling, last month was in same situation, all my direct debits were bouncing and was getting charges ontop too. spoke to bank and they held off for a bit, have now started to go thru all my in commings and outgoings jotting down the things i spend out on, went thru all my d, debits to see if some could be changed, i.e cheaper else where, this was surprisingly helpfull and ive saved a fair bit, i also arranged for all standing orders and d, debits to come out after pay day, hope it helps, i know how u feel, i sit worrying every month and just seem to live for payday, i have applied for night packing in a small warehouse, but difficult with our job, (night, on calls and w, ends) just scour the papers and look at adverts in shops, even if its a few hours cleaning. chin up x try dog walking for clients when ur free too
