aww what a shame :( my dad is super allergic to everything so could never have anything when I was younger plus I was quite allergic too. I'm much better the more I'm with animals and now have a Persian (weirdly always found them fine when short haired cats at work bring me up in bumps).

Read an article recently on Sphynx cats, nearly vomited up my sandwich when I read that they sweat alot and leave sweaty patches around the house!!! x

LOL my son did ask could we cut his fur off!

Well he has settled in his new home already ;( yeh at least we do get to see him still, it was sad when i got in from work last night and children asked if i had brought him back.

Thanks guys i think we will just not have any cats/dogs as would hate to risk it again and the same happen its not fair on me or the children or the animal so I will have to give all animals at work extra cuddles.

aghhh easy.. send husband and kids off keep the kitten. You then do not have to put up with any crying and keep the kitten.. problem solved. Just takes a bit of lateral thinking to solve these minor irritations

devon and cornish rex are supposed to be good for allergy sufferers...my selkirk rex arent though theyve got an undercoat that moults like mad! (my boyfriend isnt allergic but may as well be the amount he moans about their hair!)

the thinner longer hair in more abundance helps distribute the saliva more it also means moisture is held in and can create more dandruff. which in turn causes more allergens. Stress also increases this, which may be why the bengal is more of a problem for Sam because they tend to get stressed easily and will molt off some of their pelt which is very dense. But as a whole Bengals shed less and there saliva is less allergenic apparently.

I don't have a problem with cats but if I get rabbit fluff up my nose then it can set me off. Surely this is because of how fluffy their hair is??

nothing to do with the hair it's self it's the saliva which stays on the hair and then is distributed through the house.

Some people find black long haired cats more allergenic than others i find. I even get a little itchy with them round my eyes. Might be worth looking at a different type of cat, steer clear of fluffy cats though. See if you can check the Bengal Cat rescue as bengals are naturally less allergenic with their pelts instead of a normal coat.

Yeh i did think that to be honest getting rid of hubs! But then i would still having crying children so no win situ and he earns all the money LOL!
