Some people may well have to do this if money is tight, so don't resent them for it. Yeah some people are just tight, but for others they will need to think about the costs.

We give estimates, and in some cases the client wishes to pay over the phone before they come in. Which is all well if we have seen the animal before and know its weight.

We also have to take payment straight after, which is always hard to ask for, and I find it even worse when its a client who has been in and out for ages and has always paid.

we dont do ests for euth unless its private crem, or a house visit.

If its a house visit we wil inform client of costs b4 we go, ment to get the money once animal gone but hardly ever happens. If its for private crem we have estimates for each option on euth consent form for owners to read and sign. then they should be paid for b4 they are sent away.

Some bad debtors are given 1-2 weeks to pay full amt otherwise they go for routine

We do individuals at cost too. If we haven't seem them before we do try to get payment up front - use the phrase that would they like to settle before then they can just go straight away afterwards etc so its all dealt with.

For an individaul crem , my boss hasn't put a mark up on the costs of this so lots of our clients go for that option. Although it has to be paid at the time of euthanasia, otherwise we send them for a routine.

We always give an estimate when clients ring and also tell them their options regarding types of cremation, caskets etc.

It's a difficult situation but everyone is treated fairly, as in, everyone has a right to know what's available for their pet. If the end is drawing near for a long term client then we will give them leaflets to let them think things through and also times for house visits. The majority of clients are very grateful of this.

Having said that.... a major part of our practice debt was from people who have their animals euthanaised and cremated and never pay the bill. This is such a major problem that we now ask people to settle the bill before euthanasia. At first we were all cringing at the prospect, but so far clients have not grumbled or sent letters and have returned with puppies/kittens/rabbits and, keeping the powers that be happy, our debt has reduced. Many clients have commented that they prefer this and don't want an invoice a month later to remind them that their pet has gone.

i partly agree its hard to discuss money at a time of euthanasia but sadly a lot of clients rely on this so they dont have to pay & the people who have no money but want an individual cremation, i think its important to explain costs to people its best to keep them informed.

I agree, euth is not a time you want to be discussing money. I don't think i'd like it much if i were the client. If a client wants to know, they will generally ask. I also think the cost of euth/crem should be kept very low, it's not a time you want to be making money from people. I hate it when people want priv crem but can't afford it, when i know the costs are far lower than we charge. I'd hate to want my beloved pets ashes back yet not be able to afford it, it's a difficult enough time as it is.
