What size/type wire do you use for wiring cats jaws?
Also, where do you order yours from?
Cheers

Re: Cats and Fractured Jaws

[quote user="Carol Cottrell"]

Hi!

Think in my old practice we used to use 24g orthopaedic wire on a reel; we ordered from Veterinary Instrumentation. They are the ultimate in helpful if you are not sure which one to order!!

Best wishes, Carol x

We use different sized needles dependant of which size of wire we are using

Have also seen the use of tape muzzles and acrylic glue to set the jaw

Don't forget feeding tubes!!!!!

I have seen PDS for simple symphysis fracture and does work really well too.

on a different note I would suggest you send the cat home with some chlorhexidene rinse for the mouth, many a cat I have seen with smelly mouths afterwards!

Re: Cats and Fractured Jaws

We generally use the thickest PDS we have that seems to work well and is comfortable for the puss.
