Have moved house and am being troubled by 2 invader cats - have been looking into the PetPorte and the Sureflap and was wondering if anyone owns either. They seem a fab idea in principle but there seem to be a lot of problems with both of them

Re: Microchip catflaps?

Good luck - hope it all goes well!

Re: Microchip catflaps?

That's really helpful and answers all the Q I had - there's so many negative reviews on the PetPorte (plus I don't like the big sticky-out porch bit, the catflap is in my front door and it would look awful!) so will def go for the Sureflap.
Incase anyone still needs this info - I have a sureflap catflap. I actually use it on my door backwards! I have three cats who are all microchipped and I need to keep one in (my neighbours are feeding him and he has become very fat ) I have programmed two of my cats in but not the little fat one so it won't open for him and he can't get out - hehe!!

But obviously the principle is the same. I was very wary of the product because one of my cats tends to go out and come in VERY quickly but it seems to open every time (either that or it's very strong because he has not broken it yet in 3 months!)

The only minor thing I seem to be experiencing is that it is battery operated and boasts an average battery life of 6months. Maybe because I have two cats or maybe because one of my cats does like to come in and out like a yo-yo I have already had to change the batteries once (in 3months). That may get tedious if it continues. But better than a wire (and I have no plug near my door).

Also, quite a bit smaller than my old flap and my other cat would NOT use it for a week!! He got there in the end though and overall I've been very impressed. Would recommend - does the job.

Re: Microchip catflaps?

Is it me or was a member of the old vn site the wife/girlfriend of the person who developed PetPorte? I may be remembering this totally wrong!

Re: Microchip catflaps?

Hi again!
Somethig else that happened to one of our clients, was that he had 2 young cats, both chipped at neutering, fitted the cat flap, all ok for a few months , then one of the chips slipped down a little, so was more to one side than on top, not very much, but enough to cause the catflap not to be able to read the chip, so now he has one cat that can use it and one cat that can't!
