I have sent my CV out to eveywhere possible and started volunteering at a local dogs home.
As my job situation is getting worse - we were recently told our jobs were at risk

Re: Animal Care Courses

Thanks everyone. I've decided to go back to college in September. Going to save as much money as I can up until then so I can afford everything and luckily my bf has said he doesn't mind paying all the bills for a year

I think this is the best thing for me as I have applied for lots of animal care related jobs and had a few interviews but I think my lack of experience and revelent qualifications is holding me back, they look at my CV and see all I've been doing for the past 4 years is office work and they immediately dismiss me

Re: Animal Care Courses

If you can afford to take some time off to study full time then it's worth doing from an interest point of view. I'm currently taking the BTEC National Diploma in Animal Management course and really enjoying it. I'm not sure how much use it will be in job-hunting but at least it proves that i'm serious about a career with animals. Plus i'm getting a load of animal handling practice through work experience and the animals they have at college. Does that help?

Re: Animal Care Courses

hi, i did the animal care course and foudn that although it healped with the basic anatomy it didn't lead to the Vet Nurse position i was suggested it might - however i then went on to do the HND and it has really helped when doing my VN training. Although i did mean it was 5 years before i finally qualififed. Please don't let this put you off as it was definitely worth it and i feel that the course provided me with a lot of good foundation knowledge not just in anat and physio but also in animal management, client care and how the business works. Its also a really good way of getting used to studying at home and meeting deadlines.

Part of this course also involves work experience in a veterinary practice or kennels so this is a good way of introducing yourself to your local practice and getting your foot in the door. Hope this helps

Re: Animal Care Courses

i cant answer if your doing the right thing coz that needs to be your decision, however i done animal care coz I couldnt find a job in nursing and I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made my nursing course easier (anatomy etc) but I dont feel I benefited from it in any way other than that.

The other thing to think about is if you do the animal care course and then you find a nursing position would you give up college? On the other hand it would give you a bit of back ground knowledge!

This post hasnt really answered anything has it?...........Sorry but good luck
