I am thinking about doing it but it is a lot of money and would like others views on the course.

Re: BVNA Certificate in dentistry

[quote user="Calli D"]

I have just read the info on the course on the BVNA site as I was wondering if by doing this course and gaining a certficate in dentistry whether we would be able to perform procedures such as extractions?

No, the course will only cover what VNs are legally allowed to. You still wouldn't be able to carry out extractions (other than teeth that can be removed with fingers). Pfizers Dental Leadership course is pretty good. Its online CPD and won't cover as much detail in depth as the BVNA one, but its free!

Re: BVNA Certificate in dentistry

HI - I was also thinking about doing this course as I am pretty interested in dentistry and regularly performed dentals from start to finish before all the new regulations came in. I have just read the info on the course on the BVNA site as I was wondering if by doing this course and gaining a certficate in dentistry whether we would be able to perform procedures such as extractions?

I only ask because I sometime absolutely dispair when watching or assisting some vets extracting teeth - oh my lord but give me strength!! I mean, for crying out loud - we probably get more training in this regard than they do, so why can't we do it. We certainly have the aptitude and a damned sight more patience! I would love to do this course but to still not be able to actually perform an extraction is making me wonder whether to spend that kind of money (as I would be funding it myself)

Re: BVNA Certificate in dentistry

A nurse at my practice done this, she thought it was great and well worth it. she is well clever at her dentals, even the vets ask her advice on them....... nothing new there though
