I know what you mean, Ive waited nearly 2 years to 'find' Cocoa and im so glad I waited.

I saw her once and knew she the perfect one for me, when I got her she couldnt even walk to the park whick is 5 mins without having to sit down (shes only 3) she was so unfit. Cardiologist at work checked her out and she was fine.

After 6 weeks we are now going on 8 mile walks and she loves it....and the lbs are dropping off the both of us! yey!

Dont give up 'the one' will turn up.

As some of you may be aware, I've (sort-of) been looking for a new dog, but then put it on hold cos Cher-bear got ill and Bogglie took a teenage temper turn. Both dogs now appear to behaving themselves, although Cher is 17 and possibly not going to last much longer.

My conundrum is this - my favourite dog in the practice (Dennis) is up for rehoming. The owners have just had another child (why???) and money is tight and hubbie works away from home. Dennis is really cool, collie x 2.5y neutered, he's been coming to us since a puppy, we've vaccinated & neutered him and I think he's really special..........so do I jump at the chance and take him on now??? Or wait till Cher has passed - which could be weeks or months, even years cos she's stubborn!!

How much harder is it with 3 dogs compared to 2? Same amount of walking, slightly more food, another insurance.......

Graham has taken no part in the discussion cos he says it doesn't matter what he says, if I want him I'll bring him home anyway, although he agreed about the possiblility of loosing Cher.

Help!!!

[/quote]

Mmmm......... heres my story Fi

Recently seperated, single mother of 2 gorgeous boys, 5 dogs already, little 3 legged dog in work needing a home and what do I do? Take her home on an impulse, though, the best impulse I have ever had I may add.

Rosie will certainly not live to see Christmas 2010 but I think if we hold back when we really want that special pet who really deserves a good home, thats a decision we may live to regret. I dont regret rehoming Josie, my 3 legged greyhound, she has adapted so well here.

So you can guess what my answer is going to be!!!!

Re: Advice Please!

What is it my Mum used to say... "its only another spoonful of water in the stew" !!!

go on, you know you really want to x

Re: Advice Please!

Hiya.

Get him! Ive just rehomed a beautiful collie, 2.5yrs old from exactly the same situation, they couldnt cope with her after having a baby.

She is the most fantastic collie and great temperment.

If you feel she is the right dog for you and your family then get her. If I had a bigger house I would definately get Cocoa some company!

Getting a younger dog may also 'perk' up your older dog and she may find her youth again!

One problem may be walking which I have found when walking with a friends old dog, it is very difficult to find walks that tire the younger dogs out but sedate enough for older, slower dogs, but im sure that is easy to over come once in a routine

Good luck!

aah im such a sucker for a border collie!

x
