I did a dental talk on one open day.The clients loved it .In the end i had queues of people wanting to hear it.Didnt write anything just talked about scaling/polshing & products available to the client for home use.

We did a colouring competition for the kids judges by a local artist, name the teddy, name the "bug", what animal eats what food etc

we are having onr in nov, so far we have a drawing comp for kids thats started now, find the rabbit whist touring round, wev got a maniquin (sp?) to dress up in theatre in a set up ops room (we have windows to stop flow into ops), parasite room where clients can look into microsccope and look at pics (hopefully promote anthelmintics), weight room where clients can see how much food fed to certain breeds (promote weighht clinic), interesting xrays along with some small games for the kids. Hope is a sucess coz dont get alot of backing from boss

One thing we did at ours was guess the FB on xray. Clients loved it and the one with the most correct answers got a small prize.

For everyone but mostly the kids, we had a large teddy on the table draped, tubed and ready to go. Everyone was able to pop a gown and mask on and play vets.

If I remember correctly, Russell rabbit and co had large small fluffy costumes so long suffering boyfriends were bribed with beer to dress up for the day.

Ours was a great day, loads of stress getting the place ready and cleaning again afterwards but well worth it. Clients loved it and we gained some new ones due to it too.

How about a guess the weight of a hairy cat? Appearances can be deceptive........

I have run a few open days at various places and find that anything that involves the client is worth a try.

Another one is guess how much food to give a dog. Put out three or four measures of dried food and specify the weight and type of dog and see how many clients pick the right one. e.g. supermarket food usually has more volume that something like royal canin. Could be a good lead into selling more high quality food.

Or how about blow ups of microscope slides of things like sarnas, cocidios and get the clients to try their hand at recognition.
