I arrived back from work one night to find Jack (my staffiex) making the most horrendous noise. It wasn't a true cough, more of a heavy inspiration with a fair amount of air wobbling its way down his trachea.

Rang work to tell them I was on my way back (I'd never driven from Coventry to Birmingham faster!) All the time I had visions of a FB, collapsing trachea (would I put him through a tie back?!?) To a tumour I didn't know was there.

Burst through the door back at work and pounced on the first vet I saw. His face said it all (I knew it was bad) shortly before he wet himself laughing. His diagnosis? Kennel cough! I had never been more relived in my life and conceded that yes, I probably was a little bit paranoid. I took it a bit slower on the way home!

Re: Useless nurses

HaHa! is that you Christina?
I think it's because we have the knowledge of when occasionally simple issues develop into serious conditions, and so like when a layperson reads a medical textbook and then assumes their twinges are terminal conditions, we assume the worst for our pets.

Glad to see others are the same, shows we're all human and just born worriers when it comes to our beloved pets.

Re: Useless nurses

Me too, I start looking things up that I know, and asking the vet questions I know the answer to. My cat is always crying for food and I worry about all the possible medical reasons and then realise the kitten is stealing from her bowl so she's just hungry lol.

It's cause we know what symptoms could be and go to that first rather than working logically through the other, more likely possibilities.
