Lol! Hmm the diarrhoea on landing reminds me of 3am, Jack jumping off my bed. I hear what i think is him peeing, i turn light on about to be annoyed at him for peeing in the house...then the smell hit me So there is me scrubbing diarrhoea off my bedroom carpet the 3am...i spent the rest of the night on the sofa downstairs, my room smelt too much, and i wanted to be close to the back door to let him out every hour in case he had any more!

Actually I think that would make you the best cleaner in the world!! Well if they were cleaning up after my 3 - this morning pee on the door mat, yesterday squirty diarrhoea on the top landing, daily hovering to pick up the tufts they insist on dropping and Dennis has developed a habit for ripping up the newspaper. If that doesn't make me the best cleaner in the world, I don;t know what will!!

That gets to me. I have parents. I have a husband. But l do not call myself suitable to be a human nurse (some would say that does not qualify me as a member of the human race but they won't mutter it to my face..)

I digress. It annoys me that people have pets and they assume that this means they are suitable to be vet nurses.

Working for PDSA we get that alot, we have a limit of three pets per houshold but actively encourage clients to have less than three pets, limiting the number of pets we will treat as a charity will not stop most of these people getting more animals despite them knowing we will only treat three animals many of our clients have many more than that and we often get abuse because we will not offer free tretment to these aditional pets.

It's not just clients however we are currently recruiting a new cleaner you would not believe the number of application form that sited "I have a dog" as relevant experiance

Tying in with what Jo had to say, our practice also runs the Dog's Trust Hope Project scheme.

We're thinking of giving it up after one of our "clients" threatened to smack me. I'm all for trying to help animals but if it's me or the dog......sod the dog! Gorgeous knuckle dragging specimen of the human race. A good foot taller than me, number of teeth akin to IQ, dressed in the scum uniform and had the requisite uncontrolled, aggressive Rottie. Lovely.

It also disappoints me that some of the charities allow multiple pet housholds to have help. Before I get flamed, what I mean is if a client registers with the charity with one pet (a pedigree SpSp pup in this case) why the hell is it not limited to that dog only? The guy in question proudly announces that as the charity will help up to two dogs, he's gonna get another. A week later, he arrives with his brand new (second) SpSp pup. The puppy cost him £450. I can't help but shake my head when I hear things like this. That £450 could have gone a long way to getting the first pup vaccinated, neutered when ready, wormed etc etc

Its amazing These people have pets!!!

We had one couple on benifits come in with their staffie pup to have its 3rd vac (at least they got it vaccinated) and when we advised to spay it at 6 months they said they were going to breed from it!!!

Even after we said there are so manny staffies waiting to be homed, Its better for its health and if she had to have a C section it could cost over £1000 plus worming the mum during preg, feeding her Extra and have to feed and worm the pups they still didnt want her spayed!!

Thankfully most of our clients are much better

I've just discharged a cat spay that was CRAWLING with fleas, told the owner this and recommended she treat the cat, the house and any other animals in the house. Told me she had Bob Martins at home and I replied it probably wouldn't be strong enough, best to use a veterinary product. She complained about the price (a lot!), said she had no money with her and asked if we'd already treated the cat. I said no, we didn't, and she said we should have done it for free whilst the cat was under anaesthetic! She then produced a big wad of money and said "I suppose I'll have to buy some then". And all this is from a client who got her cat spayed FOR FREE through the CPL!

My friends son lost his job last year, and was out of work for 8 months, he never once claimed unemployment benefit.... and instead spent all his savings living week to week until he got another job.

My great grandad worked from the age of 12 and retired at the age of 77 and never had 1 days sick leave in his life.

My gran who is now 80 was made redundant at 60, but then went onto work part time until she was 78, and I reckon she would still be working yet, but shes not well. She still drove her car until recently too.

I've had people who've come in and get £260+ per week PLUS they have their rent paid for them! Northern Ireland is the worst place I've ever known for the number of people on benefits - one of our vets was saying today that 60% of people here are on some kind of benefit or other, it's crazy!!!

We use the dogs trust neutering scheme where the client only has to pay £30.

A few months ago a lady brought her dog in along with her proof of benefits.... oh my god!

She had over £400 per MONTH coming in... thats nearly double what I get paid for going to work every day!! I was furious as she still had the audacity to MOAN about paying £30!!!

I have a similar story to Vicky C. When I was younger my Dad - who has worked all his life since age 12, 7 days a week and paid tax etc...- fell off a roof (he's a builder) and broke his back.

Hospital bound for months that left my mum who worked part time as an auxiliary nurse with 4 young children and a mortgage bills etc...

When she cracked and had to ask for help all she could get was a £100 crisis loan which had to be repayed!

About a week later a girl I know who has never worked ever had another kid and got moved to a bigger house than ours - we had to go without lots but appreciated everything we had especially our dad!! She complained about everything she'd been given and they gave her help with clothing and feeding her kids! Why is everything so backwards??

The worst part is the girl in question is on benefits to this day. My dad got discharged from hospital after 3 months and was told to rest in a cast for another 8 but, as we had nothing and a crisis loan to repay he cut his cast off and went back to work! Oh, and they chased him for his tax retun too! gg

My practice does the dogs trust and cats protection scheme where if you're on benefits you can get your dog neutered for £15 or your cat for £5, and we STILL get people who complain about the price!!! They also try to book their pets in under a friend or family members name if they're not on benefits themselves because, you know, neutering is just soooo expensive and not worth doing unless you're getting it for a fiver.

What also really annoyed me one day was someone brought in their benefit book as proof of income support so they could get their cat neutered and they earned more than I do a week (by quite a margin) yet I manage to feed, medicate and neuter my pets on my wage and would never dream of applying for benefits. It does get me down though - struggling through college, getting a job, working 55 hour weeks cause I need the overtime money and paying taxes and all people sitting at home doing nothing and getting more money than me for it!!!!! Aaaah!

My previous comment on this thread was a jokey one, a comment on human neuter clinic names.

But now I need feel the need to be serious!.

Why I have not had children, because I work, because I have a morgage, because I CAN NOT AFFORD!,

Most of all because I have been brought up to believe you work to earn,nothing comes for free.

But today's society leads us to believe you can have everything for free. Get pregnant and you can then get not only a flat, but also money towards furniture, can't afford food for your kids, not a problem, as you can get free milk!!

Manage to drag them up, ooh now you can get free school dinner and uniforms!

Job centre making you look for a job, oh F**k it get pregnant again.

Human rights (which have gone soooooo wronggggg) will have a right pop at me now.

BUT..

What has the highest rise in unemployment?

Oh right yeah 16 - 25 years, why coz, they are lazy effers that have no real want to work. Get real Mr government!!!

Big sorrys to those on this site who is on inbetween the 16 – 25 age bracket, only there is always those who have to drag others down!

Before i was born, when my sisters were little money was difficult for my mum and dad. My dad was training to be a plumber and wasn't paid for a while because he was training rather than working, my mum worked but they were struggling on just her wage with mortgage etc. One of my sisters is asthmatic and found the walk to school too much so had to get a bus. My mum was very ashamed but plucked up the courage to ask for help with paying for the bus fare (mum didn't drive at the time), the answer was no. She was so humiliated at having to ask and then getting rejected she didn't ask for any more help. Yet there are people just living off us who just can't be arsed to get off their backsides and work, and think that's acceptable! For example, a girl i went to college with. She's clever, more brains than me. And what is she doing with her life? Sitting at home with two children!!! She's the same age as me (nearly 23) and just living off of benefits...she has a laptop, internet, a flat and god knows what else and we're paying for it all!!! Last time i saw her she said she wants a dog...i bloody well hope she doesn't get one! It'll be going to PDSA if she does
