The reason I ask is I think I would find it easier assessing if I was not been told by different IVs how to do things for the different students.

Just had a very harsh IV report back, the

Re: VNAC

i completly understand where you are coming from, at my last practice i had a I/V report that i really wasnt happy with, she had picked me and the student up on some really stupid faults so i checked with a fellow assessor who had an I/V report back at the same time time, i knew we assessed the same way, she had done the identicle things to me and her report didnt mention them at all (even though the same logs were i/v'ed) and so i did talk to the head of center at the VNAC as i was so unhappy about it, and she was really good and said she would talk to the I/V and ensure it didnt happen again.

so please do talk to the head of center, you might be pleasantly suprised with the outcome!

Re: VNAC

Hi Laura,

Have you approached your VNAC Head of Centre with your concerns regarding the report? If there is nothing positive within it, then it would seem too harsh. As an IV you are meant to provide positive feedback to the assessor, and highlight errors or omissions for remedial action. Your report has obviously alienated you, and that defeats the object.

As an IV, I would encourage dialogue with the VNAC concerned....though I have to say, if they were my students I would do my best to have them all with one VNAC, and build up a good working rapport with the IV('s) concerned.

Any good IV should be happy to provide further clarification, and don't forget the appeals procedure applies to this scenario just as it does for your student disagreeing with your assessment decision, so if you are still not happy you can go further. First of all though, try & get some dialogue going with the VNAC/IV/ HoC.

Hope that helps,

I know what you mean about them being out of practice for so long that they forget how a practice works and that it also cant come to a standstill for the IV to visit.

Re: VNAC

I think you can do, unless your SVN is on degree placement in which case I believe they need to stay within that VNAC (as its their university).
We had some nurses who were already training apply for a job we advertised. I asked our (potential) IV (we are approval pending!) and she said along the lines of it depending on how much they had left to complete etc, but we eventually employed someone inhouse.

There are certain VNACs i try to avoid which is why i wanted to know if they could change. I also wanted to limit the number of visits from different IVs which had been a problem in my old practice where we tried to be kind and helpful and take degree placements. I agree its much better to stick with one VNAC and an iv that you have a rappor with.

I sometimes think some ivs have been out of practice too long or worse not been in practice long enough before they become IVs! I had a funny report a while ago - i felt like my integrity had been stepped on by an elephant!! But when we checked back we had assessed the same unit the same way for all the other students - but these had been assessed by a different iv!
